Good morning.

It was announced that Qatar Airways will be launching Doha-Belgrade in 2012. Akbar Al Baker, said the airline will also inaugurate services to Belgrade in 2012.

Most likely Belgrade will become a stop on the flight to Zagreb.

Recently flydubai had launched Belgrade flights, which proved to be quite successful with additional flights added during the Christmass period.

Belgrade's average growth this year was 16%, last month it was impressive 21%. It is expected that the airport will have 3,100,000 passengers this year.

I hope BA will be back to BEG soon. Allegedly they cut BEG in order to use the slot to launch HND. BA launched HND, cut it after the March 11 quake, and relaunched it again soon after. I think this is a sign that the route is here to stay. Once BA get more slots from BD, then I hope they will consider BEG again.

Good luck to QR and BEG. Hopefully it will be a success. I can see Australia-Serbia as a major market for this flight, along with Serbian themselves to the Mid East and Asia.

I hope so too. However, I doubt that they will be back before Serbs can travel without a visa to the UK.

Here are some numbers I have for the passenger numbers between Belgrade and London.

British Airways' numbers:

2006: 52.485
2007: 58.529 +11%
2008: 56.510 -3%
2009: 52.244 -8%
2010: 48.385 -7%

Jat Airways' numbers:

2006: 63.231
2007: 67.421 +6%
2008: 75.193 +12%
2009: 73.593 -2%
2010: 64.850 -12%

Wizz Air's numbers:

2010: 25.856

Total passengers from BEG to LON:

2009: 125.837 -4%
2010: 139.091 +11%

Both Jat Airways and British Airways have been hit hard by Wizz Air's flights to Luton. Lowest loadfactor for W6 in the period of Jan-Aug 11 was in February 2011 with 76%.

Yes, that is the biggest market at which they will aim. However they will have fierce competition from flydubai and Emirates which charge €1,200 return from Belgrade to Australia.

Another market at which I am sure they will aim is Serbia-China. China is expected to become the number 1 investor in Serbia in 2012. This means that there will be a rise in business travellers between the two countries. Currently Aeroflot and Turkish Airlines have a firm grip on this market.

Oh well... I guess that we will have to wait and see what happens.

My guess is that the flight would do best on a smaller aircraft. While there is demand to/from Australia, I cannot see a China connection as easily on QR vs. TK. BEG-DOH-PEK is 6026 miles while BEG-IST-PEK is 4894. I would be interested in knowing if A320 would be sufficient for BEG-DOH, as that would likely be the best option.

I think A320 family will be the common sight on these flights, but QR is known to surprise - expecially when they have cargo surges, which could be a frequent thing out of BEG (fresh produce exports), so would not be entirely surprised to see a A332 and eventualy a B788 from time to time, though not regulalry for many, many more years to come.

Of course, I just said it as a possible target. There are roughly 20,000 Serbs living in South Africa, I am sure that they will also aim at that group.

One advantage that flydubai has and it is that it operates out of a city where roughly 5.000 to 7.000 Serbs live, quite a good and rich O&D market.

Ah seeing a QR A330-200 parked in Belgrade would be a dream ... however for the time being it will remain nothing more than that

Even that might be somewhat less competitive; BEG-IST-JNB is 5123mi versus BEG-DOH-JNB which is 6065mi.

It would be interesting to see where most passengers are flying of flydubai and what % of them is actually heading to Australia and which isn't...

As for IST the only disadvantage I see is the crowded (yet nice) airport...
