EK Swiss Flights: How Are They Doing?

Any information out there on how EK's ZRH and GVA flights are doing? How good are the load factors and how have they affected LX's Asian operations?

EK used to serve ZRH from a long time ago and LX has no Asian routes out of GVA. So cannot see that it will have a major effect on LX's Asian operations. Most of EK traffic from Switzerland probably go to Indian subcontinent and are rather low in yield which LX is not after anyway.

Would you care to substantiate this statement at all? There is in fact a LOT of premium traffic originating ex GVA and ZRH. High end tourism going to places like the Maldives and Seychelles. There is also a lot of banking and other business traffic. Rumor has it that the reason the 345's do the Zurich run is a long term contract with a major Swiss corporation.

Like any other Lufthansa group stronghold EK will experience push back in Switzerland sooner rather than later.

LX carries a lot of connecting traffic from GVA via ZRH, probably a few hundred a day connecting to LX flights to Asia.

I would guess that at least 90% of EK passengers from GVA are connecting at DXB, so their product is no better than LX connections via ZRH (and in Y class it's worse with EK's 10-abreast seating on 777s...they use the 777-200LR on GVA-DXB). Many passengers probably also prefer to connect at a civilized time of the day at ZRH rather than in the middle of the night in DXB (EK's GVA-DXB flight arrives DXB at midnight local time).

LX has an awesome inflight product (best in Europe in my humble opinion), and their operations in GVA and ZRH are top notch. I suppose where EK excels is the ability to offer one stop connections to secondary cities in the Indian Subcontinent beyond BOM and DEL. We have Pakistan well covered with KHI, ISB, LHE and PEW covered, Bangladesh with DAC (and CGP through FZ) and in India we have a good foothold, though maybe not as good as QR. In addition, as previously mentioned in this post, we can offer a three class cabin connection between Switzerland and luxury destinations like the Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, and can throw in a luxury night or two in Dubai as well. So not a bad offer.

I read the same. Apparently some bank has a set number of 1st class seats reserved on every single flight.
