According to an internal memo/newsletter sent yesterday to the employees Alitalia announces they will expand further in the next few years.
Just in 2012 AZ will start :
- 3 new long-haul destinations with an overall increase of frequencies (when compared to S11) on existing routes
- 6 (to become 15(**) within 2014) new short/medium-haul international destinations out of FCO.

The smart carrier AirOne will launch 35 new routes within 2014 (16 in 2012) with 3 new bases (1 of them should be Venice).

(**) 13 of them from FCO

I suspect VCE, BLQ, LIN (replacing AZ express). All have good mix of corporate/leisure traffic.
I can't see them going for PSA, FLR,NAP as they more leisure-focused markets.

I am hoping for MCO but I know it is a wet dream since they already operate MIA.

AP already has a base in PSA. And due to vicinity of PSA, BLQ seems to be highly unlikely.

May we see some more routes from other airports than FCO, LIN and MXP to Sky Team hubs?

Do AZ receive that much new aircrafts that they can actually start so many new routes?

Mostly LIN-MAN. Tried 4 times - 1948, 1968-1972 (latterly extended to DUB), 1988-1992ish (extended to DUB 1990 or 1991), then in mid 2000s. With LS operating daily and FR start ops to Rome, it might not be a prudent move.

What is really interesting is that AZ is not expanding T-ATL services, it seems that AF has had some impact. There has been substantial rumor that AF has a strong influence in diverting their attention away from the Atlantic.

One would think that their relationship with AF would help them to do YUL, ATL, DTW etc.

Surprised that no one has mentioned DTW-FCO yet.

That would be a good SkyTeam hub-to-hub route, with strong feed on both ends.

DTW-FCO was operated in S09 by DL with A333.

With the cuts in TATL service by the JV, I wouldn't expect any of the new routes to be TATL.

I sure hope one of the new long-haul destinations is Washington IAD..one can dream! Personally I can see ICN as a future destination..with Alitalia and Korean Air both being in Skyteam..

Also, this is my first post on airliners.net!

I want a 787 for Christmas, thank you.
