According to an internal memo/newsletter sent yesterday to the employees Alitalia announces they will expand further in the next few years.
Just in 2012 AZ will start :
- 3 new long-haul destinations with an overall increase of frequencies (when compared to S11) on existing routes
- 6 (to become 15(**) within 2014) new short/medium-haul international destinations out of FCO.
The smart carrier AirOne will launch 35 new routes within 2014 (16 in 2012) with 3 new bases (1 of them should be Venice).

Mostly LIN-MAN. Tried 4 times - 1948, 1968-1972 (latterly extended to DUB), 1988-1992ish (extended to DUB 1990 or 1991), then in mid 2000s. With LS operating daily and FR start ops to Rome, it might not be a prudent move.

What is really interesting is that AZ is not expanding T-ATL services, it seems that AF has had some impact. There has been substantial rumor that AF has a strong influence in diverting their attention away from the Atlantic.
One would think that their relationship with AF would help them to do YUL, ATL, DTW etc.
