I did AMS-CPT and back this past week (as part of BGM-DTW-AMS-CPT) and we flew over Algeria both directions...
If this link works... its a pic I look of the moving map in flight right around that area... https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1998819829373.78817.1809864885&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=1998820309385&set=a.1998819829373.78817.1809864885&type=3&theater
Experience is what you get when what you thought would work out didn't!

Flights to JNB from Europe are still detouring around Libya. One example: my father flew FRA-JNB three weeks ago, and the flight was routed along the Dalmatian Coast, then to Albania, then via Corfu and Heraklion towards Egypt for the eastern detour around Libya.

Quoting virginson937 (Reply 4): VS have been re-routing over Algiers. The VS 601/602 has been doing it both ways to and from JNB. Not sure about the CPT flight but id presume it would as well.
Both AMS-CPT and LHR-CPT would normally fly over Algeria - flying through Libyan airspace would be a bit of a detour on these routes.
Public service announcement: "It's" = "it is". To indicate posession, write "its." Looks wrong, but it's correct grammar
