White Dash 8 Over Las Vegas

There has been a white Dash 8 100/200 circling over Las Vegas for the past hour. Altitude is approximately 5000' AGL.. It appears to be a military variant. Anyone know what this a/c is doing? It has been in a wide circle repeating it's pattern over and over again, perhaps doing some photography work. The a/c is blocked from any flight tracking devices, so is either flying visually or under military flight rules.

USAF has 2 Dash 8's with sensor packs on the side, maybe one of them?

I saw something nearly identical operating in the area between PIT and LBE a few months back. Circular/rectangular patterns at around 5000 feet or so. The Dash 8 was almost all white. There may have been some minor markings but nothing I could make out. I too got the impression that it was military. Would be very curious to find out what it is.

The military variant of the Dash 8 is known as the E-9. I believe they are based out of Eglin AFB.

Russ, what you doing out in Vegas? spotting or gambling?

Is that different than the CT-142?

There was also a WB-57 flying around out of Nellis yesterday. Search for it on flightaware: NASA926

Also if you want to keep tabs on the U-2, it's NASA 806

There is an unmarked Dash 8 that I see taking off and landing at LAS every now and then. I am under the impression it's part of the Janet fleet but that is mainly a guess.

It was definitely a short body variant of the Dash 8(100/200) and was either all white or a very light gray . The NASA a/c always show up on Flight Explorer, but this aircraft did not. It's circular pattern did take it over LAS, but as it circled, it was mostly north of LAS. Looking through binoculars, it did not appear to have any sensor pod on the right side.

I dunno if it'll help, but I've seen an all-white Dash 8-100/200 parked next to the BAC 1-11 at Northrop Grumman here in BWI...perhaps it's doing tests out west?

I think the Janet fleet is all B's. Boeing 737, Beech 1900 and Beech Super King.

CT-142 is in the Royal Canadian Airforce as a Navigation Trainer.

the E-9A is U.S. Airforce. It is based out of Tyndall AFB Florida - main purpose is to clear civilian boats and aircraft out of the airspace/water during live military drills and missile tests in the Gulf of Mexico etc.

So I doubt the E-9A was in Vegas since there isn't too much water out there.

FWIW, I saw this parked at LAS on Monday morning, over by the bizjets on the Las Vegas Boulevard side.

Looked pretty much basic white, like the State Department ones above.
