My wife and I are planning to spend 20 glorious days in either Rarotonga (Cook Isles) or Nadi (Fiji) next April (2002).
My point of origin is Vancouver (YVR). According to local travel agents I can go through Asia/USA for roughly the same price. Can you guys help me create an itinerary (coach) which will:
1. Allow travel on a decent airline with great coach class (like Singapore for example)
2. Allow me to collect lots and lots of frequent air miles from my Air Canada AeroPlan miles. **
Both my wife and I love flying so distance is not a problem.
3. Not ridiculously pricey (the travel agent told me to expect to pay anywhere between $1200 - $1500 candian = $800/$1000 USD per person)
Airlines that I would like to avoid if possible:
China Air (Safety, Service)
Korean Air (Safety/Service)
Cathay Pacific (I was told by a friend that they have a bad safety record and small seats in coach)

Hmm...you could go to AKL via SIN with Singapore Airlines and then from AKL to Fiji or Cook Isles with Air New Zealand. This will allow you to sample some of the best coach classes in the world and also get your AeroPlan mileage from both SQ and NZ.
