Hi,

I witnessed an all-white MD-80 landing at TPA this morning on 19L around 10:55. I can't seem to find any info on it. Anybody know what's up?

Could have been a "justice" flight hauling illegals or prisoners. However, I thought these showed up on flight trackers.

I was watching a video about EMAS this morning and there was a cargo-converted MD-80 with an all-white livery. I wasn't able to catch the reg or the name of the carrier but it could very well be from that particular company's cargo fleet.

Owned by Wells Fargo out of SLC..leased by Ryan...originally an AS frame...operating as a prisoner flight for the feds....from what I can find on various websites....suspect the meals not too good.

Makes a sort of sense.

However, it has apparently been stored for over a year. Wonder where it has been since then.

"AS" has been up here in RFD for quite a while sitting across from the Ryan building/Emery Air on the NE side of the airfield. Hasn't been airborne in ages, but was being well taken car of and run-up each month. I'll run to RFD later and see if it's gone.

cargo-converted MD-80

There's only one of those, and it isn't finished yet, so it definitely isn't an MD-80. Plenty of DC-9's with cargo doors though.

I just returned from RFD and this mystery plane isn't N950AS. Alpha Sierra has been stored up here for some time, is currently continuing its LONG slumber across from the T4 operations building and shows no sign of movement. IIRC "AS" is in a "business" configuration of some sort, nothing for prisoner transfer operations. Additionally, its in a green "tiger striped" livery over white with a green tail and white T4 logo.

Ammended for accuracy **Interesting thou, records on the net show "AS" and "NS" as the same plane in multiple records, but they are clearly different air frames.

JPATS has 2 white-tail -80s, one usually on the ground in front of their hangar at OKC, across the field from the FPTC. Also seen occasionally are Hawkers, Citations, etc, for prisoners that require "special handling".....I believe both were former AS craft, but haven't checked who they're leased from. The 80's follow 733's, 722's and the original pair of 721's.

I re-watched the clip. It appears to be a DC-9. I stand corrected.

Thanks for the correction!

Aww good old Molly....I used to work this bird alot when I was working at AZA. Her LAV system was awful. It was used for alot of Justice flights around the country and to south america and also we had to prep it for a charter to CUN for spring break.

Ham and Cheese sandwiches, had a funky smell to them.

When I was working there CSI was paying the company I was working for a pretty penny for ground handling and cabin cleaning, more than G4 was. Falcon had four planes based in AZA when I was working there, I think Ryan also has an aircraft based there as well. It is a pretty unique operation that they have set up in AZA

I was in PIT in the middle of October and was on a tower tour when an all white MD80 showed up. There were definitely lots of metal and people watching/standing at each point of the a/c, with a number of coach buses going towards the plane. We all figured it was a justice flight. I can't recall the tail # from that day however
