WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES AT Macedonian Airlines (Greece)">IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Yeah - the 2nd 332 flight is being discontinued. I believe this is the pressure from Star Alliance in Houston and EK and QR.

So are B6 & AS going to get into a pissing match, and use markets like this to play it out in? If they are going to do that I wish it would be a more substantial market. But bet ya PDX-LGB fares will be a good value if frequency levels continue like this.

Well, the FPO flights were subsidized so if they turned down cash to cut this, I would think things are pretty bad.

Quoting RWA380 (Reply 5):

Too late, they already have. So the chain of events as I understand it is this...

1) B6 is resuming LGB-ANC which apparently was awful
2) AS responded by resuming PDX-LGB
3) B6 responds by upping frequency probably with the Allegiant slots they just grabbed

B6 is feisty. It just gets expensive to be in too many battles. They have a lot going for a small airline.

I still see the flight listed April and beyond...Could it be that the UA/CO timetables are gettin a touch bit screwy with the integration? I really want to see the aircraft breakdowns between CO and UA swaps.

Sure sounds like an old fashioned pissing match. Guess the financial consequences using this market as the war field, will be rather small than other markets. I had heard B6 did well on the seasonal LGB-ANC flight, And for AS to re-enter a market they recently swore they would not enter again, it must have pissed someone off enough. You seem like minded with me on this one, again thanks for the always fun and interesting thread each week.

That's very possible...or it could mean that a UA A/C is going to fly it for those months, but it was not loaded in sync. It is SO HARD to analyze anything with the two separate codes. What is the new date of the single code operation?

The AS fare to LAX was $210ow and B6 was $155 in 2Q2011. I'd say that is officially a disaster. AS knows they are on the ropes and are pushing.

Great, just what I needed. More flights I have to work to LGA. I thought maybe with the slot swap going through I'd get a respite from the 22x daily US departures PHL-LGA, most of which get heavy delays. Hopefully US cuts more than 4 flights on the route giving us in the air traffic world a break from the every 15 minute Dash 8 to LGA (which frequently winds up being 3 all at the same time which are all given lengthy delays by New York Tracon).

I believe the target is mid-March for merged res systems - presumably merged schedules as well.

Is this week another cut for DEN? Looks like a net loss of about 20 dailies.

PVR is the newest casualty in the Mexican drug war

Speaking of which I was curious if AS still operated their seasonal SEA-Mexico non-stops this year. Looks like SEA-PVR and SEA-SJD are still on, but SEA-MZT did not resume. The latter was always a 1-2 day a week affair anyway.

Anyone know why SEA-MZT was apparently canceled for this season? Is that permanent?

How is the newly resumed SJC-SJD doing? I was surprised when they brought that one back as part of the SJC build up.

You'd think DL would be smarter than to waste their expensive slots on a route like that.

Anybody want to speculate on what other routes DL planned with the slots that went to WestJet/B6?

Looks like it, but the April stuff is pretty typical in that a lot of hubs are seeing post-Easter reductions. The Summer is more indicative and they did a few net cuts there too.

The IT and reservations systems won't merge until March. At that time, I believe the last of the operating differences visible to passengers should go away. For labor purposes, crews will still be assigned iaw their CO and UA contracts.

If AS wanted to put the screws to them, you'd think they'd start ANC-LGB with that slot. That's a lot of plane, though, so perhaps a token LGB-PDX is as much "screw" as they've got in 'em.

When I read the article on MZT, I was thinking back to the times when you once saw 3-4 daily AS a/c there with sometime 3 on the ground at once. Good ole days!

Too bad. I'd love to backpack all through Mexico away from the beaten tourist path. Unfortunately, that's not a good idea now.

The SEA-MZT seasonal non-stop was never more than 1-2/week AFAIK. I remember when AS discontinued SFO-MZT (along with SFO-ZIH and CUN).

So far, PVR seems less affected, although I believe there was one recent tragic incident there. Baja seems to be minimally affected, so I assume SJD, LAP, and LTO are still holding up strong.
