Last November, Airbus has announced that it is abandoning the production of the A340 due to insufficient orders (there has been no order for A340 in past 2 years).
It's a sad news but customers prefer to order B777 or A330 instead more fuel efficient.
Finally 379 A340 (200, 300, 500 or 600) have been orders.

Yes it is sad to see such a beautiful a/c go away. The A340 was like a DC-8/A300 hybrid, it had the body of an A300, but it was powered by four engine like a DC-8. I looked to the A340, as a four enigne big sister to the A300, as the DC-8 was to the DC-9 series, and now it join the DC-8, A300 and DC-9 series, into yesteryear's file now.

Quoting RubberJungle (Reply 2): Au contraire, monsieur, there were 377 orders
How many frames were built? (since at least one was destroyed before delivery)
