Good evening.
As reported by the Serbian blog Aviokarta.net SAS will be introducing wifi.
First aircraft to be equipped with wifi will be an Oslo based B737-800 flying to Stockholm, Paris and Frankfurt. This service will be offered as early as this week (guess by Sunday?).
It is expected that by the end of 2012 a total of 10 aircraft will have these services offered.
SASWIFI will not only enable the usage of internet but the usage of mobile phones as well. They have signed a deal with Panasonic which will install eXconnect and eXphone systems.
Internet speed will be 12MBps which should allow passengers to surf and purchase things online. At a later stage greater speed will be offered.
This service will initially be offered free of charge.
I guess that they have started with Oslo in order to compete more effectively with Norwegian which has been offering free wifi for quite some time now.
Nice to see SAS introducing some new things for its passengers.

WiFi will stay free for now at DY. Around half the 738 fleet has WiFi installed. Tomorrow 14 out of 37 flights flying from OSL will have WiFi (all 733 are based at OSL), 14 out of 19 flights from ARN, 4 out of 7 from HEL and 8 out of 18 from CPH.
