Living in the Tidewater area now, I know that we have two airports here, that can handle airliners, and those are ORF and PHF. Now back in the 80's and 90's, a lot of the jobs that CRJs dose today, was done by 727s, DC-9s,737s and BAe 146s, and both these airports get plenty of CRJs. Now I wonder, back in the 80's and 90's, what a/c did some airlines used to fly into ORF and PHF? Also did TWA operate out of ORF?

Back in the 90's, I ran a charter operation between ACY and both ORF & PHF. We ran initially with Renown CV-580's, then Paradise Island Dash 7 and finished the program in the late 90's with Eagle Canyon F-27's. Flights operated 5 days a week to ORF and one day a week to PHF if memory serves me correctly. It has been awhile.

In my career with a certain large East Coast airline starting in 1986, I flew the 727-200, 737-200/300/400, Fokker F-28-4000 and E-190 into ORF. Also the F-28 into PHF - that was the end of mainline service there back in 1996.
ORF was also a 727/737 crew base for many years for PI, closing around 1988 or 89.
Back in the 60s and 70s you could ride on a National 727 from PHF to ORF. I believe that was NAL's shortest route segment - a few miles less than TPA-SRQ.
