When Will We See An A380 In Alliance Livery?

Hi All,

Just out of pure impatience, I was wondering when we're likely to see an A380 in one of the alliance liveries?

Currently there are 3 SkyTeam operators with 13 A380's delivered and in service, 2 Star operators with 23 delivered and in service and 1 One World with 12 delivered and in service.

Likelihood points to Star being the first, given the number of frames in service, if I recall correctly don't the alliances require a certain percentage of each fleet type be painted in the alliance livery?

Any info would be appreciated!

Cheers,

MCO 2 BRS

I'd have thought airlines will want to keep their own livery on an A380 for the near future, considering how high profile an aicraft it is having their own colours on it must be great for brand awareness. I do agree that Star will probably be the first, their logojets seem to be everywhere!

I always wondered if this would ever happen as well, honestly I think it would be nice to see at least one aircraft in an alliance livery, but im not really sure it will happen

I fully expect Star to be the first, given the number SQ have in service, I'd imagine they'd be the ones to do it. Probably revert back to the previous style of Star livery with the SQ logo on the tail and Star fuselage.

The one I'm really eager to see, and hope it happens, is the SkyTeam livery on an A380 - that would be amazing!

OneWorld I'm not particularly interested in, as the livery isn't anything unique or special to begin with.

Cheers,

lol just think of all the threads we'll have on "how great/ugly/dirty/old" they look. I'll abstain from asking about the 787 for a few more months

With so many 787s on order I think we're bound to see some in alliance liveries eventually

Yes I agree to this and think that from all OW ordered A380 the livery doesn't look good!!! Just my thinks guy's!!!!!!

If I would bet about this then would say that StarAlliance will be the first... well there is SQ or LH.... and my guess that will be a aircraft that will be delivered in the Alliance colors... Just to keep in mind that it´s a big thing to repaint or stick to change a livery!!!! And while the aircraft is on the ground it's not bringing any money!!!!!!

But will surprise ourself's !!!!!!!

Cheers!!

Probably once it becomes so widely used that it doesn't really matter to an airline to keep their own livery on it. Who knows if that will ever happen...

How much 747s are flying around in alliance liveries?

My guess is that one of LH A380's could be painted in Star Alliance livery.

Hopefully never, ever, ever.

The Alliance liveries are all mish mashed and dull. I understand the corporate thinking, but I've seen oozing globs of spittal on public toilet doors I'd rather look at.

I totally agree with you on this and as the others have said too, over time we will see it when the A380 isn't such a high profile aircraft anymore. The same goes for any other brandnew aircraft type in my opinion. On the other hand, the alliance itself can get a lot of attention/exposure if applied on an A380 now and I agree that the SkyTeam A380 will look the best!!! I still wonder why KL hasn't painted on of their 744's in the SkyTeam colors. Would be great!!!

High Profile for mostly all the wrong reasons. The airlines might like the idea of having "someone else's" name on the side of their A380s.  devil

I disagree. Of the A380 operators and the upcoming operators I would bet my money on QF with a oneworld livery. This is because the OW livery does not affect the tail, or the general image. A Oneworld QF plane is still easily recognizable as a QF plane. The A380 is still to special, and will still be due to its sheer size ("hey look at that big plane"), and I don't see it being used as a star alliance logojet, nor skyteam logojet for a while.

Quoting dc747 (Reply 1):
I do agree that Star will probably be the first, their logojets seem to be everywhere!

This is mainly because Star has been doing this a lot longer. Secondly, most of the logojets are the smaller, often regional planes.

If any star carrier was to put their plane in a star alliance scheme, I would think it would be one of the newer members, one's that are proud to have become a star carrier and wanting to show it off. But first one of those carriers must get an A380.

As for LH, I could see it happen, but not for a while (and I put my money on 'not going to happen'), if LH was to put the scheme on one of their new jumbos, I could see it happening on the 748, as for most people, it will not seem as new as the A380. TG might, as they seem happy to put the scheme on their large planes, but I think a fleet of 6 is too small for that.

At *A, it's a certain percentage of the fleet IIRC, not of each type.
Or was it expressed as a percentage of the total seat capacity of an airlines' fleet? Than you could - theoretically - say that an airline can choose to paint 1 380 or about 10 ERJ's...

All well said, I agree with this as well. A LH 748 in Star Alliance colors wouldn't look that bad no

... I'd bet by cutting off my left pinkie if SQ was going to do it within the next decade. They aren't exactly the role model of an alliance-friendly carrier.

I could imagine LH doing it, given the size of their fleet at this stage. But in saying so I would also hope that LH finds the courage to lobby for and change the logo so it actually looks good on an A380. Or on any aircraft for that matter.
Personally I think we'll see a 748i in *A colours before an A380 gets them. They are simply more anonymous for the vast majority of the flying crowd.

Agreed, one thing that would need changing is the font for the STAR ALLIANCE billboard titles to a bolder font. It looks too thin as it is. I shudder to think what it would look like on an A380.

Quoting Semaex (Reply 16):

Agreed, however I can see them doing what they've done up until recently, which is keep the SQ tail and just have the fuselage painted in the Star livery.

Cheers,

I, for one, really like the way oneworld does their alliance jets, and I think a BA or QF alliance logojet would look really good on an A380 too. I really don't like the SkyTeam alliance design though, so I hope AF/KE/CZ aren't in any hurry

As someone said I think it will take until the airlines eagerness to show their own livery on this megaplane decreases. The A380 is still flying in pretty low numbers so each carrier wants to show its own livery as long as the A380 is sooo popular among passengers and at the airports. But in a year or so maybe... who knows?

Probably not. It would be highly surprising if Thai painted one of their first A380:s in Star Alliance livery. The most likely candidate is Singapore Airlines I think.

Well, they've gone the right decision by painting a logo jet in the full star scheme (but with white tail). However, I still can't see them doing anything with their A380.
