After the pax trials in the new "Skylink" terminal at VIE started, the first pics can be found online:

Very much better than the dated old terminal IMHO!

Hmm I guess its hard to get a all rounded view from the pics but I'm not impressed. Maybe I will be when I'm there in person but for me some areas look very claustrophobic.

Well, as Gustav Mahler once said: "Wenn die Welt einmal untergeht ziehe ich nach Wien, denn dort passiert alles 50 Jahre später!"
(If the world ends, I'm going to move to Vienna. Everything happens 50 years later there!"

I agree that the architecture could have been more innovative (from what is visible on the pics), but anything's better than todays setup.

Thanks AustrianZRH for posting but to me I think the same as already posted!!!! Maybe they should have taken the designer of ZRH Airport Center !!!!

Well, at least in the pics you only see the check-in halls and the piers. And those are from a design point of view also not comparable to the Airport Center (i.e., food and shop and passenger distribution) area in ZRH. I sincerely hope that there will be better architecture in that area in VIE as well.

But I'm just wondering why I even care as ZRH is my home airport. Probably patriotism coming through .

I think it is remarkably similar to ZRH in terms of the colours and materials used. I'd also suggest the photos don't do it justice (they never do - with some strange angles)

I actually quite like it!

I can see a lot of tall windows, i like that. What i really care about an airport is how easy it is to navigate, short walking distances and easy transfers. Anyhow anything is an improvement to what VIE is at this time. Again my

Wow. I don't think I've ever seen a less inspiring set of photographs to showcase a new terminal...I can't speak much to whether it's an improvement on what VIE had before or not (the only time I've been anywhere near the place was on a Vienna-Bratislava bus that passed through the airport), but the selected photographs here certainly don't do much to get a traveler excited. As long as it's functional, I suppose...

First of all, I find the pictures worthless. The new terminal looks like a low cost terminal. I wouldn't like to spend the night in there! I've been to VIE 1 year ago and I really dislike the airport. Congrats to the person who took these ''wonderful'' pictures I guess...

Interesting and thanks for posting AustrianZRH. I have not been too inspired by the photos shown so far (including all the official press photos that have been shown on the VIE website). I think part of the issue is that not a single one of the photos has shown any form of gastronomic, shopping or entertainment installation.

I look forward to checking it out in July, however.

Also, I must disagree with comments putting down the current VIE terminal. While quite crowded and not the most inspiring in terms of design, it is incredible functional and practical. A far more pleasant experience than many of the 25+ other airports I pass through each year

How long has it taken to open this terminal, it's been looking pretty much finished for the last 4 years.

Old terminal might be dated, however frankly it was one of my favorites in Europe because it made connections so easy, and is what allowed OS to operate such a great connecting hub.

I am afraid the new terminal will make things only harder in the connection world, increasing the distances for both the passenger and airline. If I want to use a grander ZRH or MUC I would, but VIE is truly unique with its 25-minute connections.

Does it really matter if you have 25 min at VIE or 30 in MUC?
True, MUC's MCT (minimum connection time) was increased temporarily to 40 min due to construction going on with the new satellite with T2 flights having to park on the T1 apron (including some long hauls), but once construction is done, I would hope that it'll be back to 30min.

When I last flew out of VIE the security checkpoints were at each gate and the security staff moved from gate to gate, admitting passengers to the sterile gate area close to departure time. Is this still the case in the new terminal?

I don't know if it was efficient or not, but it was fun to watch.

Love the design of that terminal. Minimalist in some ways yes, but its a better design than many out there.

Many happy spotting days to VIE, though!

First of all, I find the pictures worthless

Typical uninspired and low quality pictures from "all purpose" telephone equipped newspaper "photographers". Unfortunately media events are heavily overcrowded these days with coffee and cookies lovers. A harsh lesson to be learn here by Vienna Airport and others. Ironically there are plenty of aviation related photographers on this website more than capable to deliver promotional high quality material at such important events.

I've lived in the 70s. Airports were much more spacious and less crowded then.

Don't like it. Never flown to VIE so I don't know the previous airport, but this is not inspiring design. Bare minimum. Low ceilings and the departure gates don't seem big enough.
