For about the past 1-2 months most of the daily A380 flights by AF between CDG and IAD have been downgauged to a 777. Are there larger issues with demand on this route or is this just a seasonal adjustment?

The A388 is being deployed on days 4567 in the CDG-IAD route. This was the initial plan for the W11 operation. A revised version of such planning included deploying it on day 1 as well, but the B77W is now being used for that day, reverting to the initial plan.

Quoting tff (Reply 1): days 4567 in the CDG-IAD route
Seems like a lot more than that. In the weeks after the initial flight back in June, the flight (AFR028/AFR039) was a daily 388. Now since Jan 2, there have been only 4 times that the 388 was used, with the other 11 being 777 flights. And there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the 388 flights, with one each on a Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
This could also be a case of flight aware having the wrong equipment listed for a flight. But I haven't encountered that before.
Perhaps the best way to tell would be to wait until spring, a big travel time for tourists coming to DC.

At that point in time, for the peak of S11 season, the flight was daily indeed. IIRC, from September 6th it changed to 4 weekly A388 + 3 weekly B77W. With the start of W11 season, on October 30th, what was planned was what I mentioned in my earlier reply.

You may be right. I didn't check which equipment has been operating the route, but only what is loaded on GDS for future flights.

flightaware is a great site but often shows the wrong equipment, if you haven't seen this your lucky.. I'd stick to the airlines internal schedule or a reservations system to see the correct equipment.

Double checked flight aware today by listening to LiveATC as AFR028 arrived. Just a heavy, not a super heavy.
Apart from IAD, the A388 is currently being deployed to JFK, JNB, DXB and YUL (all daily, except JNB which seems to be running 6 weekly for some weeks).
