it happened that i tried to figure out the best connection from fra to syd next spring and i dropped into austrian airlines website.
there, the flight OS3001 from vienna to sydney is announced to be operated by AUA using B777!!! however, if you look at their fleet as it is presented on their site, theres no B777 at all. have they ordered some of them? if yes, what will happen to their A340's? same thing as with SIA?

NO MORE LATER FLIGHTS 10AUG
the asterik after the 777 on line 3 signals it's a code share flt !!
just went into the Austrian web-site,
entered VIE SYD 9AUG and if you hit the "i" at the end of the segment,
it will display flt information and towards the bottom you will see
and it does state LAUDA AIR as the operator !!! :+)

No, Austrian Airlines did not order B777. The B777 was operated By Lauda Air. But from the Winter 2001/2002 schedules onwards, there will be no more Lauda Air code on its flight. All flight will be under the Austrian Airline Group, i.e., all flight codes will begin with OS, but the aircraft might not be that of Austrian Airlines'. Therefore, you have OS 3001 / OS 3002 for the VIE-KUL-SYD v.v. flight.
Lauda Air operates 3 times weekly from Vienna to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur (4 times weekly from mid-January onwards) and twice weekly from Vienna to Melbourne via Kuala Lumpur.
If you are flying from FRA, I think the airlines to fly with if you want better connections are Asian airlines such as MAS, SIA, Thai and Cathay. They offer frequent flights to Australia as well as from FRA. Lauda Air is not too bad if you don't mind transiting in KUL at weird hours.
