Had a look to see if this has been posted, but couldn't find anything...
This is a new route for us UK enthusiasts, who want to experience a spectacular landind and take off...
Montenegro Airlines announced a few days ago they are to launch a new twice daily service from Gatwick to the little known airport called Tivat, in the former Yugoslav Republic of Montenegro on the Adriatic Coast this summer...
While the flight is going to obviously attract tourists to this beautiful tourist region, the approach, landing and take-off is probably Europe's most difficult airport to operate into. With Mountains at one end of the runway and sea fifty meters from the runway at the other end, makes a great experience as the aircraft approaches from the Adriatic, and weaves into the narrow opening of the Bay of Kotor with mountains on all three sides.
The flight will be operated by a Fokker 100, which makes a change from the usual 737's and A320's.
Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tivat_Airport Tivat airport is located on the northern Adriatic coast of Montenegro. With mountains rising abruptly around Tivat airport and runway 32 that ends only 50 meters from the waters of the Bay of Kotor, it is a challenging approach and landing, rated 4D by the ICAO (operational restrictions due to the surrounding high terrain). Despite that harsh environment, there have been no accidents at the airport since it began operations. Due to mountainous terrain along the approach path, the airport is open only during daytime hours. Tivat Airport is one of the most dangerous and most difficult airport for approach and landing and a challenge for every pilot. That’s why pilots like to call it “The European KaiTak”(LYTV Approach RWY14 is quite similar to VHHH Approach RWY13) - see YouTube video "Siberian Landing - Tivat Tower" Pilots say that anyone who lands at Tivat airport during rain & wind (low visibility, heavy crosswinds, wind shear, especially during winter season) can land anywhere, anytime, in any conditions.(see AIP Serbia and Montenegro for procedures/instructions).

Excellent. It's a little better known amongst people slightly older. Yugotours featured flights to Budva-Tivat throughout the 70s and 80s, although I seem to remember it was only available from MAN and a London airport, probably LGW.

It wasn't LGW. I worked at LGW then and used to do all the Yugotours flights. They used to fly to Split, Dubrovnik and Pula from LGW.
I like the look of that Tivat. Might check it out myself.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.
I have a couple of videos on FL350. They show Fokker 100 landing (mountain approach) and takeoff (over the sea with a nice turn). Too bad FL350 is down for weeks.

Besides Tivat-LGW, Montenegro Airlines will also start Podgorica-LGW. Also another new airline to LGW will be Jat Airways which will operate 2 weekly seasonal flights http://exyuaviation.blogspot.com/201...jat-goes-seasonal-to-gatwick.html/ Oh and Adria also resuming flights to LGW from Ljubljana this summer.
