I thought the original plan was to start flights in February, but sure enough, it looks like that was moved forward to 20 January.

Astonishing that it is fitted with less seats than a 737! They must be predicting huge yields on this route

Their "Inspiration of Japan" 777-300ERs seat as few as 215. So it looks like NH has identified how many people will always fly them and are willing to pay a premium to do so.

Congratulations to everyone involved. This is a milestone as this was the first commercial long haul commercial flight by the Dreamliner. The future of flight is here.

Quoting Stitch (Reply 5): Their "Inspiration of Japan" 777-300ERs seat as few as 215.
Quoting jfk777 (Reply 1): This is supposed to be ANA's premuin international configured 787 with only 146 seats, and J class with 1-2-1 seating.
By my calculations, B788 ends up with a 12% lower GSM(gallon seat mile) and 16% lower GTM(gallon ton mile) than B77W in the above ANA configuration on a 5,200nm trip(Tokyo-FRA). The cabin layouts may not be directly comparable and therefore the revenue side of the analysis may end up showing that B77W is a better aircraft on a dense route.
The above GSM and GTM numbers on a 5,200nm trip do not change much when I compare the B788 to B77W at marketing seat counts. For reference, A332 HGW has a 4% higher GSM than B77W on the same mission at marketing seat numbers.
B788 when fully mature should have the range of B77W. B787/A359 will certainly help in further fragmentation.

Agreed this is amazing. However, I've heard, from a source that would not know, that there are routes where the freight alone breaks even and that NRT is often one of the city pairs. If so, could this, in part explain their strategy?

I just love those lines in profile a petite lady of the sky, I wish SAS would get some 787-8s as the size fits ARN passenger volumes. I am sure it will be a usual sight in FRA over time and other hubs.
Two A380 Tails (one from SQ that is on the flight SIN-FRA-JFK-FRA-SIN route since a couple of days and a LH 744) But the 787 is just awesome really!!!!!!

This morning I was in FRA to take the morning Malev flight to BUD and was competely unprepared when I passed the NH checkin counter. a few desks were specially cut off for press. Next to them there were the regular check in counters with quite regular passengers as it seemed to me. Not sure if they were aware that this would be a special flight. They all got some kind of diploma and an ANA bag with probably souvenir. I overheard ANA staff talking about being ready to bring the second journalist group etc... Quite some airport security around as well...
Unfortunately my MA flight left before I could see the 787 land.

I happened to be passing by Frankfurt today and saw the plane:
(Sorry for the bad quality photo from the insides of a bus etc.)
I wondered about the fire truck, if the plane had a problem, but did not guess that it must have been part of the water cannon salute. Nice looking plane!

I looked at getting a Y ticket on the 788 for my trip to Europe. Could book on the LH codeshare side for around 4000 euros, but was about 7000 Euros to book with NH - Four months out...

I wonder if we'll be fortunate enough to get a trip report out of the flight?
Any interviews by passengers per chance??
