Hi all,

Mexicana airways, which ceased flying in October 2010 is still listed as an alliance airline on the One World Website.

technically and legally, they might still be a member but it's not looking good for getting the airline back up and running and it looks terrible for One World to have a 'defunct' airlines logo and link to a holding page.

What gives?

3 or 4 major U.S airports still have Mexicana signs.... "Mexicana terminal B" and that type of thing

Mexicana is not cming back.... I think one day Volaris will be larger than Mexicana ever was

Well, to be accurate, MX is still on what would be Chapter 11. It´s still not in liquidation until sometime in February when they will finally (hopefully) put it out of its misery.

So yes, I know MX is not coming back, but OneWorld can´t actually say it does not belong with them because in every sense, except in reality, the airline still exists.

I found this too. Thought they would at least have a note on there saying that its not possible to book flights with them.

Slightly OT: I thought Aer Lingus was in OneWorld? Find it surprising that theres now no flights available between LON and DUB on a OneWorld airline.

EI withdrew from Oneworld almost 5 years ago, after they converted their European network to a low-cost model and presumably no longer wanted the costs and extra work involved with alliance membership. They probably also no longer met membeship requirements which usually requires a certain percentage of services with 2-class service.

They left in 2007 sighting 'stronger direct customer relationship' than being part of an alliance.

Apparently they still codeshare with other alliance airlines but not sure how true / extensive that is as nobody in OW is offering LHR-DUB but Are Lingus fly the route.

I'm not sure how Ch11 works in Mexico. It was my understanding that any entity that wanted to restart MX had obligations to the former employees, debt, etc. however that after a period of time, that obligation ceased. Are there parties waiting to restart MX when the slate is clean? Or has too much time lapsed? All the best to the former MX staff!

Most of the DUB LON flights are coadeshared when you buy it as part of an onward flight, say DUB LON SIN the DUB LON on EI will have a BA codeshare flight number.

It´s complicated. Keep in mind this is an electoral year in Mexico. That compounds the problem. In any case, no entity will restart MX. Why?

1. The market MX had has already been taken up, domesticaly, by Interjet, Volaris , AM and internationally, mostly by American carriers and AC.

2. The demands from the unions keep being ureasonable, bordering on the insane, so no rational investor will put money in this basketcase.

3. Most of its fleet is already at the hands of the lessors. Gone.

4. Consolidation in the Mexican aviation industry was long due. MX was the victim of the basic laws of economics and its own management incompetence.

To answer your question, no. No parties are queing to restarte MX. MX is dead and I hope they kill it at the end of this month. And while I am not a fan of this government, I´m glad they did not took MX as a strategic Mexican industry and saved it from its rightful death.

Let´s see if AM gets the message.

I think that the contract with Oneworld must have been terribly written. That must be the only reason why the logo is still there. They had much more flexibility with MA.

Star Alliance seems to be having trouble with the contract as well.

If that is the case, it was something specific to their contract with EI. TAM was invited to join Oneworld some days ago and they only offer 2 or 3-class service in international flights, which is nothing compared to their domestic network.

MEXICANA delivered yesterday to DGAC all documents to get new AOC, as well had an agreement with tenedora K to buy the company for about 300 MD.
