2012 Qatar Airways 787 To UK

According to a line in Business Traveller this morning, Qatar will be displaying one of their 787 aircraft at the Farnborough Airshow, after which, they aim to be the first carrier to operate the 787 from the UK.

One would assume LHR would be the logical airport for their shiny new toy, however it could be quite a capacity reduction over the current aircraft operations - thoughts?

Unless they were to add another daily service, complementing their existing four-daily flights to LHR.

Or a brand-new route for them, e.g. BHX or EDI.

Predictable IMO, historically all new aircraft types of the fleet have been deployed on the QR 001/002 rotation with the exception of B77W.

The B787 might do the 5th daily rotation that has been announced recently.

What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Well seeing as one of the BA Engineers in MAN is on a QR B787 course, I reckon you may be right!

One assumes the QR787, will follow the QR77W trend of two class seating?

Save for the initial kudo (putting aside of course the 99% of pax who won't know what type of plane they are on), a 787 on the DOH-LHR run is not exactly utilising its capability

Might we one day see QR 77W, 787, A330 and A380 daily rotations at LHR? I am assuming of course their superb A340's will be gone by then

Sadly you are right - and i love them as well. Stunning inside and out. One of the best flights ive ever had on AGA - ever, period.

MAN was already stated by QR to be a 787 destination. And they may well have it operating into MAN sooner than when LHR gets it.

I was told the other day by one of their Airbus narrowbody jockeys that LHR will increase to 5 a day. I have no idea about the aircraft type though.

I would imagine the afternoon flight (5:30 PM from DOH) will get the 787 replacing the A330. Then it will be A340s and 777s with occasional A330s.

I am not sure when it is going to appear on the GDS.. It should arrive in time for the airshow in early July and start services right after. QR should have 4 787s by the end of the year. Therefore, 4 A330s should be freed for some expansion or possibe early retirement.
