INSTRUCTIONS

WHAT IS THIS REPORT?
This compares what is for sale THIS WEEK for the stated period versus what was for sale LAST WEEK...It does NOT compare to last year or now (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED).

HOW DO I READ IT?
XXX-YYY DEC 4>5 JAN 4>5 ; means that the listed airline changed the frequency between the two airports to add from 4 to 5 roundtrips in December and January. No other months were changed. I only list one direction, although it is possible the listed change is only one way. It is too difficult to average the two directions. I assume the change is roundtrip and that is most often the case.

HOW ARE THE DAILY DEPARTURES CALCULATED?
This report uses total operations for the month listed, divided over the days in the month.

WHAT ARE THE FRACTIONAL FLIGHTS?
Non-daily operations create fractional weekly service. In most cases flights are rounded, but in the case of international service or markets with low frequency, fractions are shown. If a flight operated 5 days out of 7, it would show 0.8 flights.

WHY ARE THERE WEIRD FREQUENCIES IN FAR AWAY MONTHS FOR LCCs?
Most airlines publish schedules 11 months in advance. This report covers the next 9 months. That avoids seeing schedules as they are loaded. Several LCCs load their schedules less than 9 months into the future. Their schedules may also end mid-month. If B6 loads their schedule until Jan15, all flights in Janaury will show half frequency because of the way the report is created.

WHY IS A WHOLE AIRLINE'S SCHEDULE SHOWN AS CHANGING FOR A FUTURE MONTH?
Similarly to the previous question, some airlines load their schedule from nothing inside the 9 month window of this report. When their schedule is extended it will show as new service because there was no previous schedule to compare to. In some instances I will show a more valid comparison against another period.

THOSE FLIGHTS AREN'T DELTA, THEY ARE PINNACLE
This report only shows the marketing code. It is too complicated to show all the operators.

THE FREQUENCIES MAY HAVE CHANGED AS YOU SHOW, BUT THE SEATS DIDNT CHANGE BECAUSE OF EQUIPMENT SWAPS
That is a natural weakness of a frequency based report, but it provides something to discuss below.

THE FREQUENCY DOESN'T SHOW A CHANGE, E.G. 4>4
This happens as a result of rounding. There is a change in service that is large enough to be listed, but through rounding it does not appear.

I marked some of the ones I thought were interesting with an "*".

Ouch. This hurts for CVG more than it does MIA. At least CVG-FLL goes from 1 to 2 times daily.

Looks like CLE-STL gets added back after everyone thought it was a goner.

I'd imagine that CLE-LAS is going to PMUA metal, hence the cut.

Good to see CLE staying active.

I imagine this relates to the use of G7 and/or AX at CLE and the need to get aircraft to CLE.

It is their hub, AA is probably playing hardball with DL. But the thing I don't understand is MEM and CVG are only operated by AE ERJs whereas DL offered mainline to both destinations -- a superior product no less.

Equipment is 738. It is filed to the WG code. WN should not be able to file WG coded flights. If such a thing were possible imagine all the mischief airlines would get into corrupting their competitors' flight schedules. I don't know what it is.

It is their hub, AA is probably playing hardball with DL.

How about this? Let me put on my tinfoil hat. Could it be that DL is going to make a bid for AA's MIA hub and they are doing this to reduce their overlap since they know route overlap is how DOT has traditionally decided whether deals are anti-competitive?

What's happening with BOS? AA tried to promote this route for a long time with double miles, etc and DL has been trying hard as well. This leaves with AF the sole carrier on this route (and may be higher fares too). Has BOS lost some of its premium pax or its the airliners trying to limit their TATL routes to hubs? Can't wait for JL to start their new service to boost the int'l capacity at BOS.

Seems like it, however, the AM reservation system doesn't change from week to week. Basic 3X a week 'til the Easter break, then daily, drops down to 4X immediately post Easter break, then back to daily in June/July. I was at the airport Friday evening around 9:30 and per usual, the Volaris line was maybe 50 deep already. AM, which has the 11:40p departure was pretty quiet. Traffic is heavier in-bound now, as the Christmas crowd continues to trickle back into town.

Perhaps it's simply MIA-MEM/CVG/MSP just aren't doing that well for Delta?

AA probably has the upper hand on MSP-MIA becuase they've been flying it for many years with a 738. NW flew MSP-MIA for years but when they merged with DL I don't think the route was as much of a priority. A lot of feed is filtered through ATL.

At least with CVG they are increasing FLL to 2x daily. Perhaps DL is consolidating back to FLL in the future?

It seems they are following the same pattern since they added ORD, I think they started at 8 daily and will be up to 13 this summer.

Take these UA changes with a grain of salt. Many routes swapping with PMCO metal so it's hard to get a grasp on it. IMHO BWI is strong and won't go anywhere. MSY is up and down and maybe better suited in the CO system where it's easier to route crews and metal via IAH.

Several hits to SEA international service. YYZ had been 2x daily E190s for a while now in the summer. Fares to anywhere in Eastern Canada are crazy high most of the time, though, so perhaps loads are the problem and not yields. The strong CAD has to be hurting AC as well.

5x weekly for KE in the summer is also surprising given the strong feed/connections from AS. Perhaps DL has taken TPAC market share.

Looks like it is on their website. It seems like a mistake unless they are supremely confident they will win so they loaded it with the inventory closed so they can start selling seats immediately upon approval. I guess it is only illegal to sell the seats, not list a flight.

I'm just not sure I see why they would do this unless it is an error. If it had been awarded it would be posted on the DOT site. Somebody here would have seen it.
