Any Original Delta Jets In The DL/NW Deal

Kind of hard to answer your question since we can't be sure when back in the day was.

No, none of the aircraft were previously operated by Delta.

NW did used to have an ATL maintenance base where they did a significant amount of DC-9 heavy maintenance dating back to the Southern Airways days. NW closed this facility in 2002.

N994Z, a DC9-31, was formerly N979NE and flew with Delta from 1972 until 1975 (it originally started life with Ozark). However, I believe it was withdrawn from use by Northwest in 2005. So it never actually flew with DL again post-merger. However, there does seem to have been a registration hit on 12-31-2009 showing it was transferred to DL. So maybe it's still sitting at Marana somewhere.

The gentleman who took this pic says that it also served DL after the merger and THEN went on to Ozark. There are a handful of -15s and -30s that flew originally for DL that went on to fly for NW. N3324L is one that I know of......

I believe N3324L was the only ex-DL aircraft that was in service with NW at the time of the acquisition. However it was retired shortly thereafter and so never officially flew for DL again.

So although none ever flew again for DL, I imagine they re-acquired ownership of a couple.

A little more info that might help. Not sure when the 2 DC-9-31 were retired, but From Delta's DC-9 list and the current Parked list I have 2. Ship 9988 N8944E MSN 47176 was N3335L with delta back in the days, and Ship 9941 N3324L MSN47103 and was N3324L with Delta, Both were DC-9-30's, and both show show currently owned by Delta, and in storage.

If you like DC-9's, the storage list shows 8-DC-9-10's, 25 - DC-9-30's, 2-DC-9-40's and they are currently owned by Delta thru Northwest. The DC-9-50 are also all owned, and the number in storage are sadly going up untill the 34 are all retired. HTH.
