There increasing speculation that Montreal could see a direct link to Munich as early as next summer!
Firstly, many people on this board have claimed to have read such a notice in a German Aviation magazine, claiming that Air Canada would commence the route from YUL next summer.
Then a fellow posters on the Montreal Dorval message board had this to say:
"I just spoke with a lufthansa sales agent regarding one of our groups travelling next october.
She said the rumour about a direct flight Dorval-munich should turn into reality.
And it could be a lufthansa aircraft doing the air service.
So we should have any news by october."
So now it looks like LH(lufthansa) might be the one doing the flying.
Montreal Dorval's international markets are growing at an average of 10% a yeart since the transfer of flights from Mirabel to Dorval. Lufthansa will have a competitive advantage given that it;s a STAR member, and STAR carries 64-65% of all YUL traffic.
Do you guys think it's a longshot? Have you heard any rumours about such a direct link?

I think a YUL-MUC flight does not make a lot of sense. If you want to fly to Canada u can fly with AC through Toronto and that should be enough. During Winter season AC only flies 5 times a week with a 767-200 YYZ-MUC and LHs smallest plane for a YUL flight is an A340 which has too many seats for such a route.

except for rumours on this board, i haven´t heard of it, but still i think this could be true.
however, i doubt it´s going to be a LH operated flight.
this is certainly no justifying reason but wouldn´t it seem strange if the FRA-YUL flights is operated by AC and MUC-YUL by LH???
and besides, i think there are certainly other destinations which enjoy higher priority when it comes to being served with own LH aircraft.
what aircraft does AC utilize on YUL-FRA? it believe it used to be an 763 but i think it´s currently an a333.
and the smallest plane LH could use on the MUC-YUL run would be an a342, whereas AC could provide 762s/763s which offer less capacity and i do think that the a343s would be a little big right from the start...
If only pure sweetness was offered, why's this bitter taste left in my mouth.

I bet, it´ll be an AC B762 daily service from YUL - MUC next summer (2002). I also doubt LH could serve this route with its own a/c. That wouldn´t make any sense, unless LH would stick to the daily YYZ - MUC flight. But AC wouldn´t give away this flight to LH (I hope at least!).
But could it be also possible, that they´ll leave YUL and introduce a second daily to YYZ, this time may be on LH a/c? The excisting AC service to YYZ seems to do very well - it was upgraded to A333 during the main summer holiday season (Jul til Sep). That´s just a thought of mine ...
But i still hope to see AC daily from MUC to both YYZ (B763, at least with A333 during the holiday months until september) and YUL (B762).

Since both AC & LH are Star Alliance members it really doesn't matter who flies the route.. AC will handle all YUL ground operations and LH will handle all MUC ground operations.. letting LH fly YUL-MUC would give Montrealers a brand choice to Munich..same for German's wanting to fly to Montreal. The rumor has been around for over 6 months.. if LH gets the A330-300s they are rumored to want to get then ground oeprations at both ends would be clean and simple. With MUC's expansion and YUL's expansion plans this is a logical new route for both cities.

Okay maybe an LH333 for next summer on a trial basis, perhaps more convenient as an alternative for folks from even from Ottawa and the Maritimes. And also while the YYZ 'T-New' construction gets more heavy and the old terminal disruptions more possible, as it nears completion.
