I hope so -- the Southwest livery really looks pretty darn sporty on the 717!

Approximately 15 FL 73Gs will join the WN fleet in 2012. FL 717s will start going over in January 2013 with most, if not all, in WN colors by the end of next year. All subject to change, of course.
Painting a Boeing 777 takes up to 11 days and costs between $100,000 and $200,000, depending on the number of colors, Manclark said. A smaller jet, such as an Airbus A320, can be finished in seven days at a cost of about $50,000.

Yeah somebody posted DL got the 747s painted for about $100K so guessing 717 around the 320 price quoted above, $40-50K.

I agree! It looks pretty sharp! I like!

I think that is about right.

I am curious if, assuming they do get a re-paint, they will put the SOUTHWEST titles on the tail. The 717 vertical stabilizer is not very tall and makes little room for the titles. My bet is they put SOUTHWEST on the fuselage.

That wouldn't make any sense. The titles can and will fit in a smaller font.

THey didn't with the 727s they briefly had (leased):

Why wouldn't it make sense? The vertical stabilizer on the 727 is even bigger than the 717 and yet Southwest put the name on the fuselage.

I have to admit the WN scheme looks pretty good on a 717. Then again, any paint job looks good on the 717... it's just a good looking bird, period!

Also, from a brand management standpoint, isn't it better to have a uniform fleet? Even DL had the shrunken widget and shrunken DELTA on the Mad Dog tails.

Got to paint them either way so might as well make it now! Paint job will not last for 5 more years.....
You must not work for United. They got 12.5 years a single paint job on one of the last battleship grey planes.

Here here. I agree. The old Delta widget scheme was one of the best around. Today's version is a bland attempt at best.
