Lufthansa returns with a daily A380 from 25 March on SFO-FRA v.v.

LH454 FRA 0935 SFO 1155
LH455 SFO 1420 FRA 1005+1

Lufthansa is the only airline operating an A380 into SFO this summer, as AF won't be returning with A380 service.

A shame AF discontinues its A380 service to SFO. I think that Singapore could possibly do it from NRT in the near future.

You don't think SQ would sooner upgrade SQ1/SQ2 to the flagship of the fleet? In which case it would be flying HKG-SFO   I think that is the more likely scenario (if and when the US economy substantially improves). I was suprised when it was downgraded to the 772.

SQ will not open a new route from NRT-SFO. If anything, it will be from HKG/SEL

It was downgaged to a 77W.

I think the next carrier at SFO with the 380 will be EK. Once the higher TOW weight a/c have been delivered.

I see BA at some point in the near future. I always struggle going to SFO on staff rebate. Maybe an A380 and a 744 ? Great from a slot perspective ! Roll on the A380 at BA.

SQ only operates a route to ICN and HKG (continuing on to SIN) and it would be evident that this would upgraded from a 77W to an A380 at some point.

I doubt they would start a route with the A380, but rather with smaller equipment.

SQ just had their 16th A380 delivered (9V-SKR) and still has 3 more to go, which will all be delivered within Q3-2012. In theory it would be possible for them to upgrade SFO-HKG-SIN from W12. Not sure how many planes that route actually requires, but I think they could with two.

Future flights: CPH-BKK-MNL; MNL-GUM-TKK-PNI-KSA-KWA-MAJ-HNL-LAX

Why did AF downgrade? Did traffic not materialize as they hoped?

They moved to LAX, I assume, because 1.) More premium traffic, 2.) Delta's stronger presence there and 3.) preserving their monopoly as the only transatlantic A380 service.

There were a bunch of A380 reports, articles and videos in the New York media when SQ started flying there and you can't imagine how many people have asked me since ''how do I get to fly on that plane?''.

It is my understanding that SFO got the A380 from the NRT route due tot he Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan. SFO was A380 ready. Now, LAX is coming online and I believe NRT is or will be going back to an A380.

SFO is actually keeping the same or near capcity this summer with daily 744 and 77W service.

AF on CDG-SFO-CDG :

S11 : 1 x Daily A380 + 3 x Weekly A340

S12 : 1 x Daily B744 + 1 x Daily B772ER
