Interesting Changes At CDG For 2012

In an interview in this morning's "LES ECHOS", the CEO of Aéroports de Paris has confirmed that by October of this year, all of Air France's flights and those of its Skyteam partners will be concentrated in Terminals 2EFG, with Terminal 2F (and presumably 2G which is regional) being for Schengen flights, and the three parts of Terminals 2E (the "jetty" and satellites 3 and 4 (which opens in July I believe)) will be for non-Schengen flights. This will allow passengers from Schengen flights to not be required to go through an additional security check and will greatly facilitate the transfering between Skyteam flights.
Further points in the interview, Terminals 2A and C will be connected by a new building that will have some gates and shopping areas. The opening of Satellite 4 and the transfer of all of Skyteam Schengen flights to 2F will allow for ADP to close Terminal 2B temporarily for a complete refurbishment. Terminal 2B is expected to re-open as a dedicated Easyjet terminal. Plans are also underway to connect 2B and 2D in a similar fashion as 2A and 2C.

Good news.
Finally the CDG experience for transfer pax will be decent.
It was about time....nobody ever understood that crap of a terminal 2D, the transfer of AF flight to the magnificient 2F is a great progress. And 2C is just average with those very small boarding gate areas.

For 2B I think they' ll have to cut the refurbishment in 2 steps: the U2 part of 2B has been redone already recently, it's the 2nd half where AH, Belavia and some others stagnate that has to be redone first.
Then the U2 part: they cannot just close 2B entirely, U2 has become the second client of ADP after AF for the whole CDG

It is about time that this terrible airport sees some improvement, it is really a shame so far, any transfer there is no big fun and I am not talking of a transfer from Terminal 2 to 1... It has very much improved with this automatic metro CDGVAL from 2 to 1: it's day and night with old days.

Then, it is unfriendly because the French believe it's up to people to adapt to things, not up to them to adapt to people: "user friendly" is a very American concept and relatively new to mentalities over here. Roughly, if people get lost in the airport it's because of them not because the signage is fuzzy...
well things are changing step by step too, signs everywhere have mushroomed in the last 10 years

It is about time, the lack of airside connections between terminals is a major pain in the neck and the main reason I actively avoid CDG when I can.
Not mentioned here is also a new baggage sorting facility, which should hopefully reduce the comparatively high amount of lost luggage in CDG transfers. Will 2E and 2F also be connected airside (without passing via the satellite)?

Indeed I cannot understand the whole T2 layout at CDG, terribly disfunctional, particularly for a transfer hub, which is what CDG was supposedly meant to be. Individual sub-terminals without airside connections; even the official AF magazine recommends to walk rather than take the trasnfer busses. At least now AF operations will be around a more concentrated area. Well except for that remote 2G terminal ...

Went through CDG about two weeks ago connecting from 2G to 2E, and was pleasantly surprised that it was a much better experience already - from 2G, there is now a direct bus to several stops at 2E, and there are immigration booths at 2G so you clear immigration even before you get on the bus. Also, there is no longer a security check for this type of connection (either on the 2G or 2E end); the bus drops you off at 2E now with direct access to the gate area.

I believe that during the refurbishment of 2B, Easyjet will be temporarily operating out of 2D which will have been left vacant by AF et al since they will have moved these Schengen flights to 2F.

The CDGVAL connecting Terminals 1&2 is very easy, quick and very "user friendly" and clean. Alot easier to transfer between Terminals 1&2 than say Terminals 4&5 at LHR.

Never understood people's problems with signage at CDG. I always find it very clear (there are worse places signage wise: MAD comes to mind). But then CDG is my home airport, so I know it like the back of my hand.

Personally, I find CDG workers find. I yet have to complete a recent trip report (it would be my first) where I compare BA/AF and CDG/LHR, as back-to-back trips with both carriers allowed me to make some very interesting and eye opening observations...both in the air and on the ground.

You just can't help it....
Even when we try to have a normal discussion, you just have to make provocative statements.
If your behavior is as provocative when you're forced to go thru CDG then I understand only detestable things happen to you and that erase all credit you could have.
