Why Did DL And VS End Their FF Relationship?

One used to be able to earn DL status miles when flying VS. Why did this relationship end? One obvious answer is that DL wanted to get a bigger London presence for itself, and that has certainly happened. But what else went into the decision to end the codeshares and the cozy relationship?

Virgin Sueing Delta over the copyright/patent for their business class product probably had a huge effect.

Virgin may have gotten a Better deal from Continental.

I believe some airlines licens3ed the patent from VS... but DL went and copied the seat without any authorisation from VS.

DL didn'y copy the seat. It was sold to them by contour aerospace. Up until a few months ago it seat was still shown on their website as a business class product for sale.

Sure it was sold by contour... and Virgin sued Contour and also later sued Delta.

My understanding is Virgin first sued Contour.... they then sued Delta and lost... The appealed that decision and then won the case against Delta.


Hardly seems to be things you would do with a "partner" so no wonder the code share was terminated.

Hasnt VS sued anyone that used the herringbone layout.
