AC YYC-NRT To Operate Year Round

AC's YYC-NRT nonstop service, previously seasonal (summer only) will now operate all year. 5 x week summer, 3 x week winter.

As the press release mentions, there are good connections beyond Japan. For example, HKG and mainland China have major investments in the Alberta oil industry (Husky Oil for example), and YYC-based companies are involved in the oil and gas industry in countries like Indonesia. I would think many business travellers between YYC and Asia would prefer a nonstop to NRT and connecting there, rather than a domestic connection at YVR or a U.S. west coast gateway.

I would expect that clearing customs/immigration at YYC at that time of the day is a much faster and more pleasant experience than at YVR or major U.S. gateways where many international flights usually arrive about the same time.

Probably connections to China Taiwan and HKG, both business and leisure.

IIRC Calgary has the 3rd biggest East Asian population in Canada after YYZ/YVR (forgot the order).

This flight is the only link of YYC to anywhere in Asia, so it must be enjoying some degree of monopoly (before EK comes in and ruins the party)

I work for a major Calgary based oil/gas company that does business in SE Asia. A lot of people in my company frequently travel to Asia.

Right now, most people at my company fly YYC-YVR on AC, then to HKG on CX 889, and then to the final destination in SE Asia on CX. This is usually the fastest way, and people can still get a full day at work before leaving for Asia.

Most people at my company are Aeroplan members though, so they would prefer to fly other airlines. Some people (who really care about getting the miles, including myself) fly YYC-LAX-SIN-Final destination on AC/SQ. It would be nice to fly YYC-NRT-Final destination on AC/ANA.

Some other routings I've seen at my company are:

YYC-ORD-HKG-Final destination on UA/CX (I've seen people do this one for the sole purpose of getting more miles...but it's actually pretty cheap).
YYC-SEA-NRT-Final destination on DL (most people who collect miles on SkyTeam airlines take this route)
