Recent story on today's rough landing of an Iran Air aircraft at Isfahan airport:

Does anyone know for certain which aircraft type this was? The Press TV article shows a picture of a Boeing 747SP.

Wow, this is the THIRD instance of burst tires on an Iranian A300 in the past 6 months:

Iran Air Dep LHR Lands In Kent, burst Tyres. (by readytotaxi Nov 8 2011 in Civil Aviation)

There is definitely something weird going on - any guesses on the causes of these repeated tire failures?
If I'm not mistaken, due to existing sanctions on Iranian airlines such as Iran Air and Mahan Air, they are unable to purchase new tires directly from western manufacturers such as Dunlop and Goodyear, so if they aren't buying them directly from the manufacturers they are inevitably obtaining them through third parties. Could this simply be a case of suspect quality tires being supplied by Iranian middle-men?

That's an average of one every 6 weeks... There is something very wrong here.

I just pray that there continues to be no serious casualties, both Iran Air and Mahan Air have been very lucky so far, although 11 people were injured in the Mahan Air incident.
