Has there been any update about United shifting around its gates at DCA post-merger?
Has this option been discussed before: Give Delta's current gates to United, and move Delta (with its reduced DCA presence) into pre-merger Continental's old gates? And that way US can get United's 3 gates in the central pier.

Why does DL need to move? DL can just give up a few gates and UA can move in. DL/CO are on the same pier.
I would actually prefer to see AA move and have UA/CO/AC consolidate in the central pier so that all A* carriers can be under one roof at DCA. I doubt that is going to happen however.

Because Delta has most of those gates and they no longer need them. United, on the flip side, can consume the entire pier.
Having the DL gates in one uniform area makes the most sense

Post slot-swap, Delta will still have 51 daily departures out of DCA (I believe it's something like 14x LGA, 13x ATL, 6x DTW, 5x MSP, 4x CVG, 3x JFK, 3x MEM, 2x SLC, 1x LEX). Even dropping to 6 gates would mean averaging over 8.5 departures/gate/day, which is pretty heavy utilization.
Considering that Delta needs 2 gates (minimum) to be able to handle simaltaneous 757 departures and simply giving the sCO gates to DL simply won't work. 4 gates for 51 departures including the Shuttle simply is asking too much.

DL will give up two of their current gates to UA over the next few months. DL will still have 65+ flights a day until July when the slot swap is completed. Like others have said, 54 flights from less than 7 gates will not work.
