I recall a year or two ago about the possibility of the name Eastern coming back. Anyone know if the idea was given up? With People Express coming, it brought back Eastern in my mind. Also, what happened to the new Pan Am out of Texas? Would that be Pan Am XVIIXYZ

They were rumored to be taking over USA3000 in order to rebrand it as Eastern, and considering said airline is now winding down (If I remember correctly, they're still doing some charter work and once those contracts are done, they're done.).

They do have a website, as well as a Twitter account (They have a Facebook button on the site, but no such page for them exists on Facebook.) .

http://www.neweasternairlines.com/
http://twitter.com/#!/flyeastern

The website looks more as though it is a travel site as opposed to an airline (I guess they need to generate $$$ somehow), the Twitter account hasn't had anything related to the relaunch of Eastern since August 11, 2011 (and claims in said tweet that they're relaunching the airline this year).

I don't think this one was ever serious, as they aren't even listed on the website for BRO and were supposed to have started cargo ops last year.

The guy who was to start Pan Am in BRO was arrested for distribution of kiddie porn.

I don't think we'll be seeing him anytime soon.

The PanAm name was bought by Guilford Transportation, a New England regional railroad. Last I heard, they weren't interested in letting an airline use the name.

Is just me, or is flying not as much fun anymore?

What ELSE would it be used for?? Silly waste of $$ on Guilford's part, IMHO.

Finally made it to an airline mecca!

I can't even imagine why a freight train company would need any recognisable name. It's freight. Now, if Amtrak wanted to rebrand, I could understand...

Guildford used the Pan Am name on an airline before they decided to rebrand all of their railroad holdings into Pan Am Railways. They bought Pan Am mk.2 on the courthouse steps, launched what is considered to be Pan Am mk.3, folded it in 2004 (labor issues) and had a subsidiary airline Boston-Maine Airways (Also reusing an old airline name.) fly the 727s under the Clipper Connection banner from 2005-2008 when that operated shutdown. So they used the Pan Am name (and associated trademarks) on an airline from 1998-2008. They also renamed the company from Guildford Transportation Industries to Pan Am Systems, and the Pan Am name is still also used in regards to aviation, as they have Pan Am Services, based out of PSE, which is an a/c spare parts dealer and FAA approved repair station. Pan Am Services is also the company within Pan Am Systems that is responsible for the licensing and marketing of Pan Am related merchandise.

But in any event, a small railroad buys an airline name, tries to run an airline (??), with the predictable result...
