Future A380 Services At Gatwick

In 2010, Gatwick got approval for A380 operations, and has now announced it all but has approval for terminal developments to support the A380.

http://www.flightglobal.com/news/art...on-approval-for-a380-plans-369332/

The article specifically states: "The airport operator hopes that A380 operators will begin using the airport from summer 2013."

Does this mean it has an operator lined up or with strong intentions? I can think maybe Emirates or (if they get them) Hong Kong Airlines.

I wouldn't say they have an operator lined up already but I would say EK has strong intentions for the A380 at Gatwick soon as they have 3 Triple 7 flights a day already. I wouldn't think Hong Kong would send the 380 to Gatwick anytime soon, the new flights this week on their A332 are not filling that well but time will tell I guess. Also with Korean starting up here in just over a month's time, they could be another possible candidate for the A380 here if all goes well in the future.

If VS ever gets them I think it is a dead cert that LGW-MCO will get the 380 for use during the peak season. In the not to distant past VS have been operating 3 x 744 on selected days in the summer and once the economy picks up a bit would imagine it will happen again.

EK will send their A380 to LGW for sure once the airport is ready. 100 aircraft will be in EK's fleet so LGW will get the service, no doubt about that.

EK A380 will be seen at LGW I am sure, possibly as has been said VS if they get them on the MCO esp at peak times. Other than that unless something changes I csnt see any other airline needing or wanting to use an A380 from LGW

Qantas and BA are going to abandon Heathrow and focus solely on LGW. So there will be plenty of A380s there.

I would love that to happen!!!  Fairly certain LGW will never see a scheduled QF service though. Shame.
