After seeing photos of a CM frame with the Star Alliance logo at GRU taken today (14/03/2012), I realised that everybody is quiet about Copa and AviancaTaca joining the alliance. Is everything confirmed for both airlines next month?

While I checked their website to confirm converting over to MileagePlus, I saw they modified the font of their logo to somewhat match UA.

That's what has been rumoured for a long time now, yes.

In the original press release from November 2010, Star Alliance stated both CM and AV would join the global alliance by mid 2012:

http://www.staralliance.com/en/press/cmavta-prp/

However, one year later, in November 2011, during the ALTA conference in Rio de Janeiro, the CEO of CM, Pedro Heilbronn, stated CM and AV would join in April 2012, a bit faster than originally planned. I can only imagine Heilbronn must have carefully coordinated with AV before making a public announcement.

A separate issue from joining the alliance is homogenizing AV's brand with TA's brand and the integration of their operations and systems. One would assume AV would publicly reveal its joint branding program in tandem with its ascension to Star Alliance.

Perhaps some insiders from Bogota can inform the rest of us what AV's plans are.

Mr Heilbron might have coordinated with AV to say that then, but since then things could have changed @ AV headquarters in BOG.
Has anyone seen any AV/TA aircraft with the Star Alliance logo yet?

I'm not on CM's payroll.

That is my question, no aircraft has been painted in Star Alliance colors yet but when is the first aircraft to be painted and which aircraft? I presume a A320 or A319? I don't think they will paint any aircraft if not everything is in place yet(?)

Most (if not all) of the airlines joining * have waited till joining to paint aircraft.
It is not a requirement to have the planes painted day 1 in the alliance.

CO used the 1st *A painted plane as the backdrop during the joining ceremony. That plane was painted just prior to entry date (yes, they were unique but still a use case).
We are talking about a 14-ish days to paint a widebody or 5-7 days for a narrowbody. They can get that done pretty quickly, the planes don't need to be flying around in *A livery prior to entry date.

Is there a possibility of AV-TA being last minute "rejected" from *A in order to let LA in?

Just common arguments these days. While it is true that OW is not in the best shape, neither are any of the two other alliances.

Lol, you are funny!!! Will SQ join Skyteam because LH, SK, OS, TK, TG and SA all made a loss last year???

You are old enough to remember when most of Star's US carriers spent most of the Naughties in Ch.11?

IIRC LH made a profit last year as an entire group, so that could consider OS too.

Regarding all of the Star Alliance's North American carriers being bankrupt well, that was just chapter 11. Your argument is kind of invalid since none of the airlines ceased operations, compared to MX, MA, IT (process of joining), and AA being bankrupt.

oneworld is the prominent alliance in Latin America. Between AA, IB, and LA, they cover mostly every country, save for The former Guianas. Of all those carriers, only AA is in chapter 11, and that does not equate to the alliance bleeding, and being unreliable. And a pretty unfounded remark.

Once JJ merges with LA, the alliance will pretty much be the dominant player in the region. I will however say that CM, UA, and TA are also a dominant force in Mexico, and Central America.

LAN has previously announced that they will never work in the same global alliance involved with AV-TA in the future.

I don't think it would happen shortly.
TA has domestic divisions in Central America and AeroPerlas from Panama has suddenly stopped their operations.
AeroGal from Ecuador and Avianca Brasil are bigger issues in that integration process.

UA's coverage of Mexico out of IAH, is larger than AA from DFW. Not to mention UA's flights from California down to Mexico. And with TA/CM in Central America, it's a no brainer that they're network is larger. Of course SkyTeam's coverage in Mexico is even larger with AM.
