Has UA accelerated the retirement of their DC10 fleet? I was just surfing around trying to book some flights to HNL (for next February), and I was surprised to see that most of the choices were 767s or 747s. Hmm. I did a little surfing about a month and a half ago for this same trip, and most of the choices were DC10s and 747s.
So where are all the '10s going? Are they quiclkly being phased out? I thought they were going to keep most of them for a few more years...

If I remeber correctly, they cut a deal with Federal Express some time back to swap DC10s for 727 hush-kit installations, plus other compensation, and Fedex converts the aircraft to freighters. Can't recall the specifics of the deal, but you could probably search back through Yahoo News or the Aviation Week magazine site to find the details..

Well UA is retiring a DC-10-30 tomorrow and a -10 later this month..This leaves us with 9 Dc-10-10's and 3 -30's in Passenger service..UA still has 4 -30's as Freighters..
Its a good thing those -10's are being pulled off West Coast..They were always restricted on the Cargo side..The 747-200's and 400 to HNL are great..
I think the -10's are being retired as the 767-300 in 2 class come on line..

A few DC-10-10's went to LAS where I assume that they are waiting for buyers or will be turned into soda cans. I was in LAS about three weeks ago and there were three of them in storage. Later this week I'm posting pictures of them.

MZJ is Marana, about midway between PHX and TUS, and GYR is Goodyear, just west of PHX.

I loaded a couple of them tonight... N388FE and N384FE. DC-10-10's that FedEx traded hushkits for. If i remeber correctly, alot of the UAL 10's and AA 10's are sitting in the desert waiting for conversion to MD-10's. I see a new one come through every few months just out of the cargo mod but still the 3 man cockpit. If you like the Dc-10's and MD-11's, come sit on a cargo ramp in a major city... you'll see them in purple.

Hi, as United receives more new fuel efficient 747s, 767's & 777's they will quickly retire their DC-10's. I think some of the DC-10's are going to Federal Express to be converted into freighters.

So wrong my friend..UA does not fly their 4 DC-10-30 FRTRs into PIT..We did some flying during Christmas season last year for UPS on a Charter Basis but the 10's have not been back in PIT since then...You must be seeing things or have UA confuded with somebody else..
