I find this all interesting as it seems that Philippine air carriers want to make intra-SE Asia (with the Philippines in one end) travel alot easier for foreign visitors. Cebu Pacific just recently launched HAN and REP, now PAL are launching DPS.
It wouldn't surpruse me if 5J would eventually start up HKT/PEN from Manila.
In fairness for Malaysia expansion, PR is returning to KUL with three times weekly service to MNL, operated by 2P.
But also, allow me to quote myself from FlyerTalk:
Quote: Hm. The schedule should offer very good connections up to Japan, Korea and China, but trans-Pacific requires a whole-day stay in MNL, which shouldn't be a problem for Indonesians (and others who are headed to DPS and vice-versa).
It seems that PAL is taking advantage of a growing Philippine tourist market, the same way 5J is doing with opening up REP.
