Well the swiss market has changed since 2004/5 when SriLankan left Zurich.
Back then there was 1 daily EK flight to Dubai, 4 weekly QR to Doha from Zurich.
Now you have 2 daily EK to Dubai, daily QR to Doha, 4 weekly WY to Muscat from Zurich, all with convenient onward connections to Colombo.
Since UL restarted Zurich, both EK & QR have marketed Colombo with aggressively low fares.
WY is also trying to grab a piece of this makret, with some quite interesting fares....

Quoting thenoflyzone (Reply 2): If the Sri Lankan Government is stupid enough to grant so many flights to EK out of CMB, then it's really not EK's fault, now is it !
Hehehe I think this statement is best applied to Australia

No doubt as a result of the ME-carriers. I'm in two minds to feel a little disheartened by this, or just shrug it off as good old fashioned competition. As another user said, the ball lies firmly in the court of the Sri Lankan government.

Is it really so important? My guess would be that most of the traffic is related to tourism. Seems to me that it would be best to get more bodies in so they can spend at tourist attractions.

Smart move by UL. Hopefully now they will upgrade some of their A320 operated flights to SIN/BKK/KUL to A332s with the freed up aircraft as a result of the EU suspensions!

where to next? MEL?
They had stated their intentions to serve MEL and YYZ but have gone quiet, so it will be interesting to see if this freeing up of resources will see their focus shift.
