When I was driving to work this evening, I saw an KE 744 on final approach to 15L, but it suddenly rotated upwards and aborted landing. It made a circle east of the airport and came back to land.

Is there anyone know why it made an miss approach? The whole scene was just spectacular to me.

all opinions welcome

He saw ya at the last moment, and wanted to make a 'spectacular' impression, maybe?  Big grin

Seriously though, short of somebody witnessing a maintenance truck or flock of birds or even tarrying a/c in front o' it on the runway, maybe an in with the tower guys needed to get the low down (no pun intended) on stuff like that.

KE seem to have more missed approaches than other airlines. I have seen more than one go around lately, in perfect weather.

Flyguy1,

"KE seem to have more missed approaches than other airlines. I have seen more than one go around lately, in perfect weather. "

Maybe planes on the ground didn't clear in time for KE's landing. There are stories of miscommunication in KE cockpits, but I doubt the crew are so imcompetent as to miss landings on a perfect day. I bet there were other factors that played a role into the aborted landing unbeknownst to an observer.
