Is QF An All A380 Operation @ LAX?

With QF recent retirement of their Boeing 747s fleet, and the with drawing of their LAX-AKL route, ( A330 operated) I wonder, is QF an all A380 operation, at LAX? Also, do QF still flies between LAX and JFK?

This has not happened. There are several 747s still operating for QF. A quick glance at their online schedule shows quite a few 747 flights ex LAX for SYD alone.

You may wish to check on this before telling everyone QF have retired their 747 fleet.

I wonder when we/if we will ever see an A380 LAX-JFK. That would be awesome to see. Though I doubt it is very economical. When I flew it a couple years back the load factors in Y were horrible. Up front wasn't much better. Though from what I understand the cargo revenue keeps it going.

Wasn't the plan for both SYD-LAX-SYD to be A380s? If so, has it remained a combination operation with the 744ER & A388 because of the issues with the A380s engine and wing problems? Will 107/108 eventually become a A388.

(1) No it wasn't the plan for this year.
(2) The "issues" have not changed long term fleet planning.
(3) Yes, but don't forget the 744ERs are being reconfigured with an A380 interior, and will be in use for a further 8 to 10 years.

Yes, i think that is the eventual plan, but as far as i know nothing has been set in stone in terms of QF107/108, and up to the furthest booking dates March 2013 its still showing as a 744

No, from what I read, an A330 should be a very comfortable ride, but as a 747 fan, I love to read that the original Queen of the skies, is flying between the two biggest and best city in the United States. The only thing better QF wise, would be if QF started using A380s on the LAX-JFK route.

That thread was that QF were operating their last 747 flight from MEL.

I think that the 747 will be at LAX for quite a while. Soon there will be a big gap in A380 deliveries for QF, so I would think BNE-LAX-BNE will continue with a 747 for the forseable future.

Unfortunately she has been repainted back into the standard color scheme. The (blue) 737 is still around though IIRC.

I doubt very much that QF will ever serve NYC from anywhere other than LAX (unless the was a major change in their strategy, ie switching to Star). The success of the flight depends on its ability to gather passengers from the MEL and BNE flights (and AKL for the next month), and if/when QF returns to SFO, it will be serviced as a secondary destination, not be with service from multiple cities.

QF107 will remain a 744 until 2019/20 when the final 6 A380's arrive to replace the final 9 744's. Even then it's not a certainty, depending on what the market looks like in a decade. Much as I'd hate it, we could end up with QF11 being supplemented by a JQ 789 flight...

I flew up on QF15 on a 744ER with the new interior, and it is light years ahead of what's offered on the 332s.
The 332 is still a great aircraft to fly on, but they are starting to look a little dated. It is still the best way to get from LAX to JFK!

Whats to say that the 2 A380s due in late 2013 won't go on QF107/108?! I'd say there is a high chance that thats where they may well end up. DFW or JNB are other possibilities IMO.

QF107/108 will switch shortly to a refitted 744, no need to use the BNE aircraft unless the SYD flight is heavily delayed.

Yes. But it pretty much is anyway, QF25/26 MEL-AKL-MEL is a 73H so a change of plane and longish layovers depending on the schedule which varies in the different seasons so hardly great or a direct flight.

It makes so much more sense for QF to use the extra A380 capacity on flights outside of SYD-LAX... You mention JNB and DFW, but taking QF127/8 to daily (which is likely to happen this year using the additional capacity from the return of Nancy Bird IMO), FRA and NRT are all also strong candidates IMO.

And I know it's a weak argument, but there's also the fact that QF needs a 744 in LAX everyday to operate QF107 to LAX. BNE-LAX is 6'weekly, and has been forever with QF very reluctant to increase it to daily. Given how constrained the fleet will soon be, it's unlikely that they will be adding the extra 747 required for the extra weekly flight any time soon.

It just makes more sense for QF to use the A380 elsewhere, especially since the 744's will have virtually the same product inside soon...
