Interesting--I figured secondary Peru was imminent but I assumed it'd be something like TRU first. IQT is not a bad add though.

Hola Ragazzo!

Incredible news CM is starting flights to IQT!!! Woow! It has been rumored a while, great its happening!!!

Iquitos sure needs connections, since there is no road leading to the city. The CM frequency might do very well in the cargo sense, not only the freight can connect on the IB or KL flight to Europe, but to dozens of destinations to the US and Central America/Mexico!!!

Still nothing on a CUZ frequency?

Saludos,
Adam

I thought the Peruvian government would not allow international flights out of CUZ (well, apart from the former 5L to LPB). I think AQP will be added before CUZ

if I am not wrong 35 weekly flights not to LIM!

Well out of CUZ would be basically 0 freight, so I am nearly sure they could make the flight with a decent load.

Maybe they could try a PTY-CUZ-LIM-PTY triangular routing? I believe AA did something similar back in the 1990s when they served CUZ from MIA.

You're most welcome ! I should have mentioned that the new flight frequency to Miami is only seasonal, though. It will run from June 23 through August 28.

Trust me, we all assumed CM would fly first to TRU or AQP, not IQT, so it was quite a surprise when they announced Iquitos as their new Peruvian destination. That said, I still expect CM to fly to Arequipa and/or Trujillo in the future.

Hola, Checo. I know, man, it'll be great to see Copa fly to Iquitos !! Finally, Iquiteños won't need to fly to LIM first to leave the country, so good for them !

Actually, the thing that's stopping most international carriers from flying into CUZ is the airport's elevation issues. Cuzco Airport is elevated 10,860 ft above mean sea level, which only allows short-haul flights (hence AeroSur services to La Paz). Also, the airport facilities are a little dated now and that's why a brand new airport is on the cards.

Quoting avi8 (Reply 11):

LIM goes 35x weekly, which makes it one of Copa's top destinations in South America in terms of flight frequencies.

Not surprised that much, except for IQT becoming a CM destination before AQP in Peru and SJU getting a 3rd daily.
I'd not have expected SJU to be able to support thrice daily flights to PTY, well the 3 daily could be all with E190 then.

Because altitude issues, I don't see CM in CUZ or LPB any time soon.
What I'm concern is how is CM going to take-off from CWB short runway for non-stop to PTY when they probably start later this year.

I'm not on CM's payroll.

CM thru P5 could operate PTY-BOG-LPB but it seems none of CM aircraft is OK to operate into LPB or CUZ.
My bet is that AQP will come before CUZ or LPB.

CM IQT-PTY would boost the traffic to Miami through PTY. The IQT-MIA sector was operated by other Peruvian airlines in the past.

June 01: CM PTY-UIO; 14x to 21x
June 01: CM PTY-GYE; 14x to 21x
June 10: CM PTY-CUR; 4x; E90 NEW
June 10: CM PTY-ASU; 4x to 7x; 738 all the way
June 10: CM PTY- CUN; 14x to 21x
June 17: CM PTY-PEI; 6x to 7x
June 18: CM PTY-BSB; 4x to 7x (4x 738 + 3x 73G)
June 20: CM PTY-KIN; 2x to 4x
June 21: CM PTY-MAO; 4x to 7x; E90
June 22: CM PTY-CTG; 11x to 18x
June 22: CM PTY-MDE; 28x to 35x
June 22: CM PTY-JFK; 14x; 738 all the way
June 22: CM PTY-ADZ; 5x to 6x

It's only the first step and it would highly depend on the demand of passengers.
For example, CM PTY-LAS has not started yet and it surprisingly upgraded their frequencies from 4x to 5x weekly and effective from June 27th.
