A Sage-Popovich repo job, as are the 2 320's parked next to it. Be aware the picture is about 2 years ago and the aircraft is in the process of being scrapped, as well as 1 of the 320's. Allegiant operates out of GYY. If you search you will find past posts on these aircraft.

I thought that as soon as i saw the title. There was a series on the Discovery channel about them. Interesting that the A320's are still there. Would of thought they would of been brought by now.

Then you're inferring that Allegiant doesn't know what they are doing?

The VASP aircraft are long gone. As a matter of fact only one 320 remains and only one Lufthansa 737 sits on the ramp currently. That bird is the 7th of 8 total that will meet their maker in GYY.

I actually have an answer. When the little airline you work for goes under and you really need a job and there is a startup airline at GYY that is going to start flying Metros which you happen to know something about offers you a job, you end up in Gary, IN. Trust me. Don't ever end up in Gary, IN.

The A320s are SX-BVL and SX-BVK they were actually aired last week on Airplane Repo show. It was quite interesting what they had to go through to get one plane back from Turkey. They are referenced in a previous post here. Airplane Repo Show - Discovery Channel (by ripcordd Jun 9 2011 in Civil Aviation)

I was lucky enough to fly SX-BVK...very cool experience.
On a side note, anyone have a good link where I can download the episodes? Never seen the episode I made and it would be cool to see it!

The show made it seem very espionage like trying to sneak out of the European Air Control area so that they could not ground the plane for the almost 400k in fees the company owed them. Was that really the case and was it really as intense as they showed it on the show?

I didn't realize there is a scrapping operation at GYY. At least that's something to help the economy there.
As an aside, I grew up in northern Indiana and our high school basketball team played a high school in Gary. We had to have a state police escort in and out of the city.

Really? We were rolled out the red carpet in Santa Maria and had absolutely no issues. They were definitely trying to make it seem like it was a hairy situation but not the case. It was actually quite relaxed and enjoyable. Nick is larger than life though. Some of his stories are unbelievable, but this one definitely fell into the tame category.

Quoting 26point2 (Reply 17): Boeing corporate flight department is at Gary I believe.
Boeing's corporate flight division has been based at GYY since Boeing moved their HQ to Chicago.

From what I have heard from some friends who work out of Chicago, what is happening to these aircraft in Gary is a natural phenomenon.
Aircraft and other vehicles don't have to be repo'ed- just park them in Gary and parts and tools will disappear from the vehicle. Sometimes overnight!
I did not read this in detail, but three points caught my eye;
1. Are the revenue and expenditure each really under $1M, or did I mis read that.
2. That the most up to date figures seem to relate to 2009, (i.e. over 2 years ago).
3. That most of the expenses are "Contractual Services and Commodities", but no real break down or explanation of these is given. They seem to record about 75% of expenses, simply as "Other Expenses".

What you are reading is the annual report for the Chicago Gary Regional Airport Authority. This is the "Compact" between the City of Chicago and the City of Gary overseeing ORD, MDW and GYY.

So much hate for my airport in this thread. As for airport revenue, those numbers posted are nowhere close to the amount of revenue brought in by the tenants of GYY.

Thanks for posting this.....I've always wondered why there are VASP aircraft out at GYY every time I drive by it. The other time I saw such planes was at CGH haha.
Any remaining Skybus birds floating around GYY these days?
