We at BA have been told a B787 is coming in to LHR on the 27th April.
On its visit it will be shown off at the BA Maintenance Base for familiarisation with
our Engineering and Ground Staff.
No other info at the mo but i presume it will carry out other Airfield functions and
be just a day visit?
Missed it at Farnborough a couple of years ago so looking forward to its arrival, should be a great sight!!

What airline will be flying a B-787-8 to LHR? Will it be Japan Airlines? Are ANA planning to start a service?
I am happy to hear that LHR will get a visit from that beauty airplane. All the A380s on the tarmac will frown when they see her. They will be green with envy looking at her gracious silhouette.
I can tell you one thing. I was at Farnborough two years ago to see the 787. It was love at first flight. I knew I would be on one as soon as they would start service (ANA We Fly First) and I made it happen.
The B-787 is as much a pleasure to fly on as it is to look at, especially with the expert on board service delivered by ANA cabin crew. Those flexed wings are quite amazing!
There was a better way to fly it was called Concorde

Quoting PHX787 (Reply 1): Has BA ordered the 787? I haven't heard anything about potential orders. Seems like it'd be a good fit for BA
BA placed a firm order for 24 B787s along with an order for 12 A380s.
The order also included options on another 25 aircraft (mostly 787s i understand)
These will replace their fleet of B767s and B747s.
Also in the rumour mill is BA looking at potentially more 77Ws in addition to
the few options they have. Just a rumour though i quote!!

My birthday... Sounds like a plan, don't you think?
Haha sorry I haven't kept up with orders until quite recently. But I'd be interested to see what routes it'd fly. I have a strong feeling JFK and LAX will get some routes...perhaps the daily to PHX might be replaced by a 787? (I hope not, it's awesome seeing the 747 fly over my apartment every day)

I have some photos of the 787 on the ground at LHR. Unfortunately they are taken from inside a BA 767 whilst we were taxiing to the runway so are not brilliant. She followed us to the runway and I presume took off after us.
If only I could work out how to post them...
She is a terrific-looking bird. The captain came on the tannoy and told us about the 787 on the left of the aircraft (we had already spotted her and were clicking away). The captain was clearly very excited. Most of the passengers did not know what the fuss was about.

Oh! Thank you MadameConcorde!
Here are the photos - apologies for the quality, it was from behind a dirty 767 window on a foggy London day with a not-terrific camera. But here they are:

BA absolutely love the 777W and are kicking themselves for not ordering it sooner but, they are likely to order the 777-900 when launched as it will most likely offer RR on the wing. That's what I've heard.

Quoting Roseflyer (Reply 4): BA is looking at getting delivery of the 787s in 2013 last I heard.
Six 787 836s, G-ZBJA to 'JF, CN 38609 to 38614, are due for delivery in 2013.
The six 77Ws BA currently operates were ordered in a special deal with Boeing after the manufacturer said that the six 788s detailed above would not be delivered in tiime for the London 2012 Olympics as originally planned.

27 CaptainKramer: Thanks Hotplane. I'd be happy with a silouette, it would certainly be unmistakeable, in profile or from front on, especially that wing flex.
28 gilesdavies: Rumour has it, that the 787 will be visiting Luton for a few hours, with it being the HQ for Monarch and Thomson who have both ordered the aircraft...
29 NYC777: i wonder when the 787 is going to visit Toulouse? Ya' know to see Air France?
30 garpd: You don't read much do ya? They ordered back in 2007. About the same time I was mocking one up as a "what if?" drawing.
31 PHX787: Haha, if they did that, they should put markings on the side like Airbus did with the A346, like "Lighter, faster, More Efficient," etc etc haha
32 booforty: Is it coming 22nd now rather than 27th?
33 hotplane: One of the BA refueling guys at LHR has been told the 22nd.
34 david_itl: Both dates. On 23rd it routes LHR-MAN at 1700. On the 24th at MAN it does 1 local flight then is parked up until 27th when it leaves for LHR at 0900

48 DAL763ER: What time is it leaving for MAN today? I'm at Hatton Cross, but it's not departed yet.
49 neothearmal: Its not due at MAN till 22.15 so probably not until about 21.15ish. I think the time has been put back due to a late arrival of the plane from Seattle
50 david_itl: Doing a MAN-MAN fllight tomorrow which is expected to include a flyover of LTN. It departs MAN at 1130 and returns at 1330
51 PHX787: an odd flightpath on this one, doesn't look like a great circle at all, more of a sharp angle and beeline into LHR

59 tdscanuck: They're actually LCD's. But yes, they're huge! Tom.
