BBJ MAX, Keeping Up With G-650, Global 7000/8000

Boeing has confirmed that its BBJs will also be upgraded/offered in the "MAX" version....

"Boeing Business Jets confirmed that its 737-derived bizliners will migrate to the new 737 Max platform. Deliveries of the BBJ2 Max, based on the 737-8 Max, will begin in the 2018 time frame, to be followed by the BBJ3 Max (derived from the 737-9 Max) in 2019 and the BBJ1 Max (based on the 737-7 Max) in about 2020".

With the Gulfstream-650 (7000NM range) and the Global Express 7000/8000 (7300NM/7900NM range) coming down the pipe, things getting competitive in the biz-jet sector.... Let's see what Airbus and Dassault come up with

The current BBJ is already competitive with those numbers considering the size differences; speed is where those jets shine, but then the range goes down. And Airbus's response will just be the neo version of the ACJ.

The G650 has a long range cruise speed of M.85 while I believe existing BBJ's it's around M.78. Makes a difference on long flights. The BBJ/ACJ is a whole other airplane though. With a BBJ/ACJ you limit the airports you can go to dramatically and hangar space is hard to find at most airfields. Oh, and not to mention the final delivery price approaches around $100 million these days. That being said, it's cheaper to fly a BBJ/ACJ than fly two G550's if you need the pax capacity.

that would be the only reason to get a BBJ/ACJ versus a G550/650 or Global, CAPACITY... the long-range Gulfstreams/Globals can take you farther, and faster for less money... I'd be interested to see the performance details of the new BBJ MAX.
