Who's Going To BOS To See JAL 787 On 4/22?

BOS has a huge spotting community, and I'll have the chance to meet them in person a week from today as the first revenue 787 flight in the United States lands there. JAL's 787 is scheduled to land late morning. Choice of runway will probably be set well beforehand, and our spotting locations will be chosen accordingly. I'm sure the media will have their helicopters off in the distance recording the 787s arrival.

You might verify the dates of the first operation. My information shows this flights first flight from BOS will be 4/23/2012.

It will only operate 4 days a week until June, where it will become daily.

First ops is Sunday 4/22. Operates MWFSu until June. And for the spotters, it's rumored JAL can only accpect RWY 15R/33L for departures due to severe company obstacle clearance restrictions. JAL & Massport trying to work out the problem.

Sigh, you are correct.

I did do some googling and it seems you WILL get chased out of the terminal parking areas by security.

Given the rain, chances are being off-property will mean you won't see much if anything.

So, not much point in coming down...

from what I understand, if you contact MASSPort they will give you permission to be in the parking garage, there were some posts about that in the photography forum I believe.

I can't be there in person, but will be there with my fellow A.netters in spirit. May great spotting find you, and beautiful weather and a wonderful approach be in your future, a piece of history for BOS & JL. It would be neat to see AA bump up their presence in BOS when they can, and help funnel some great connections through BOS instead of DFW, using the AA/JL JV.

Who in a position to actually KNOW (rather than GUESS) is saying the debut will use the 777? Are these 'friends of friends who have a friend who works for JAL?' No one should buy that kind of report.

In the end, a 777 arriving is only slightly less historic: First nonstop between Boston and Tokyo, first scheduled JAL flight (Red Sox used JAL 744s three years ago).

If the weather is reasonable (i.e. overcast or better), I'll be there to see whatever plane it happens to be.

Putting my weatherman hat on, you might get just that.

The prediction is that any actual precip will end late Sat, but it's not clear whether or not there will be another airmass coming along to take the place of the soggy stuff so they are guessing it will be overcast Sun morning and perhaps more rain later Sunday:

There's a lot of uncertainty in the forecast, so it's best to keep checking.

Edit: LOL! The a.net software really mangled that forecast!

I'll be at the top of the Terminal B parking lot. Sounds like a Runway 22L kinda day.

EDIT: IF the 15R/33L thing is correct, this should make for an interesting crosswind approach to (my guess) 15R.
