Quoting eaglefarm4 (Reply 6): Around 17 deiversions to BNE due to fog in SYD. 4 A380'S on the deck a new record here.
Great spotting I bet. Where were they all parked to handle that many additional flights? Given that MEL had fog related issues too that would not have helped.
I know that its great seeing 3 X daily A380s is MEL each day, which will be 4 X daily in Oct with EK. Certainly fills up the airport so BNE really would have been packed on top of its normal schedule.
I handles 330's okay as well all know, I'm not sure if their aerobridges wold go high enough to allow pax to disembark. But in saying that, generally in these scenario's, the passengers have to stay on board the aircraft, from what I have been told, (and I would love feedback if contrary to this) that it is up to Australian Customs and Immigration to allow the passengers to disembark. Once QF (or any airline AFAIK) arriving into an international port, they need permission from immigration of that country to allow the passengers to disembark.
Ask Joe Hockey MP, who was tweeting on the flight Apparently ADL only has one A380 tug so there was some delay (but I am only taking this off one quick 140 character tweet, most likely not 100% correct).
Wish I had been in BNE this morning, would have been a very very busy morning!
Well believe it or not i have seen BNE worse than this on 1 or 2 other occasions.
BNE now has 15 parking stands at the ITB soon 17, plus 6 at the old ITB plus the old runway and taxyway at the old airport so basically today there was possibly 32-35 aircraft on the deck at the international terminal plus the old terminal and the old runway and taxyway including the parked aircraft such as HI fly 343,Heavylift 734F,Solomons A320 and Mineralogy MD-82'S and Aviation Australia 727F .
Yes BNE still had it's own aircraft there such as EK,BR,EY,2SQ,4 QF,PX,NZ,

By chance flew on a Sky Interior 737 yesterday (my first one) and was really blown away by it.
The BSI overhead bins make the entire cabin feel at least 50% wider while the LCD strips along the roof somehow make it seem much longer than a standard 738. She really felt like a "big" plane.
I'm a huge fan of mood lighting and since it was a dark outside I got to appreciate that in all its glory.
The IFE is a great add. The choice was more than sufficient for domestic/Tasman flights, although I must admit it did seem a bit of an overkill for SYD-CBR!
I really like the new seats, but I have two questions about them:
(1) are they narrower than QF's standard 737 seats? It's just I noticed that my big glided down the aisle whereas normally I end up bumping into every second row, suggesting that the aisle was wider.
(2) I thought QF were planning to introduce red seat covers on the domestic fleet in order to harmonise short-haul and long-haul aircraft from a customer perspective. This brand new bird, however, had the usual grey seat covers.
Now I'm on a roll, I thought the new business class seats looked really good. When I first saw pictures of the red leather I immediately thought "Virgin", but it is actually a much darker shade of red and looks quite luxurious!
I also liked it, but didn't love it. I found the bins to be almost compressing inwards (hard to explain), making the space feel much more claustrophobic to me than with the older shelf bins. But it's definitely a huge improvement over the old interiors.
My experience was on a VA plane (totally lucked out, this was only a few days after she was introduced last year), so can't comment on the seats. A lot of people seem to be commenting that the seats feel narrower, so it seems that they probably are. The additional width in the aisle might be caused by thinner sidewalls though?
With regards to the seat covers -- has this ever actually been announced by QF? I know that there were rumours, yet they continue to take new aircraft with the grey fabric. Perhaps this is just limited to J?
The IFE is great. Makes a massive difference to have a system that matches (and exceeds) many long haul products on such short flights (aside from the absence of films -- these are made visible on longer flights though, and the selection is good, 12-14 choices IIRC).

QF108 will operate using the inbound QF11 A380. QF12 is not operating today. This is what usually happens when they send a 744 to VCV, as QF108 cannot operate as a terminating LAX flight.
Let's not forget not all retiring aircraft operate as QF107... The last B744 retirement was ferried direct to VCV... While on the subject VH-TJU is off to the desert tomorrow...
The 1st QF A380 VH-OQD to under go reconfiguration will be ferried to MNL on the 29/04...

154 qf002: Qantas operates: QF141/114 SYD-AKL -- this used to be tied into the A332 serivce AKL-LAX. QF121/122 SYD-ZQN -- probably due to the lack of crews at Z
155 ZK-NBT: South African daily to PER from Mid August with A343s i've seen reported elsewhere.
156 Truemanqld: Ok so the website is wrong then... thanks What is it currently? I am still waiting for the final final verdict that QF/SA won't be able to cooperate
157 Truemanqld: Ok, another question. Since when was QF a partner of Virgin America? (http://www.virginamerica.com/travel/flight-routes.html) How do they cooperate?
158 ZK-NBT: 6 weekly. SA did say they would use their freed up capacity from dropping CPT-LHR to increase flights elsewhere, PER was one of the places mentioned
159 Truemanqld: I think they (QF) will do daily SYD stopping 3 x weekly in PER, at least initially. Could we see SA do similar, and maybe extend PER flight to SYD 3
160 qf002: 5 weekly A346, 1 weekly A343. It's also very common to see it operated by the A342 in the low season. How strange... It's just an interline deal thou
161 kiwiandrew: I can't see it. Unlike QF, SA would not be able to top up such a flight with domestic pax. I would have thought that if SA went back to SYD they woul
162 eta unknown: Heavylift 734F finally flew yesterday- now in MEL. I can't find any info on subsidies...
163 Aussie_: SA could do what MK has just done - operate just to PER and offer seamless codeshare connections on QF or VA (would be interesting to see who they cho
164 RyanairGuru: Good God! Unfortunately your link doesn't work, but if you go to the "our partners" page it does list QF... http://www.virginamerica.com/travel/virgi
166 thegeek: This was my understanding too re:ZQN FWIW.
167 IndianicWorld: SA would likely be wiser either looking to initiate an interline or codeshare agreement with VA/DJ for domestic connections into PER or commencing a 2
168 thegeek: What about the arrangements in PER for domestic/international transfers? My understanding is that it is worse than SYD/BNE. Would there be any merit
169 IndianicWorld: ^^ Good point. VA/DJ will be moving into a new pier at the International terminal at PER in coming years which will help, but in the time until then i
170 qf002: A VA domestic tie up makes sense, I don't see them flying into MEL. There was a lot of discussion around the complete absence of a South African popu
171 thegeek: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-1...antas-takeover-speculation/4065920 Interesting. I imagine VA or TT would be prevented from buying a voting stak
172 RyanairGuru: VA could probably buy up to 20% (?) but not anymore since IIRC that's the level which activates the takeover mechanisms TT is a 100% subsidiary of a
173 thegeek: I agree. You never know what might happen though - could be a consortium much like what used to own Optus.
174 Truemanqld: I personally would love to see a tie up between QF and another foreign airline, but not a hostile one. QF has a lot to offer, such as, arguably, the m
175 smi0006: Here is an interesting media release from Canberra airport: http://www.canberraairport.com.au/me...0releases/MediaRelease12_12Jun.pdf Just more plans

178 RyanairGuru: If it happens then that would be a fantastic scenario. But "if" is the operative clause. I still doubt the political will to build HSR, especially by
179 tayser: umm... yes that's the whole point. a private entity willing to pay for some of the most costly pieces of infrastructure in any HSR solution is the ri
180 qf002: But the HSR will actively take traffic away from SYD and MEL. That's why SYD has so strongly and publicly stated that there is no need for a new airp
181 IndianicWorld: The HSR is a pipe dream. The cash is just not there, and likely won't be there for many, many years to come. Think of it this way, why bother investin
182 6thfreedom: Surprised it hasn't been picked up. China Southern Airlines has announced Guangzhou-Cairns services from November. any further details?

184 Truemanqld: Wow, would have thought they would have expanded BNE to at least daily before going to CNS, but thats good news for CNS!
185 eaglefarm4: Mayby the CNS service possibly 3 a week will extend onto BNE making it Daily ???. A bit like CX do .Time will tell. We have a Saudia Arabian Airlines
186 koruman: Why? China-Queensland is going to be 90%+ inbound package tourists from China, and Cairns is their number 2 destination in Australia after Sydney, wh
187 eaglefarm4: Koruman .My contacts at BNE airport are stating around 40-60 pax per flight outbound are non Chinese and growing. I flew CAN-BNE in October and there
188 eta unknown: The CZ goal for CAN-AKL/BNE flights is 75% to be originating from China. Wow- a JL 772 and SV 772 in one week- it's all happening in BNE!
189 weebie: Went on Murray St in PER yesterday. Looks like Batavia Air have set up a big office near the freeway. Must be coming into PER soon.
190 Truemanqld: Well, you have already been proved wrong on the first one, and secondly, you once again fail to recognise that it isn't true, or why would they have
191 sydscott: I'm actually surprised JQ aren't trying some sort of CNS-China service to get it's foot in the door with the inbound package market. Focusing on SIN-
192 Truemanqld: I take your point, but could this mainly be due to a lack of aircraft? SIN-OOL is a shame that TZ got their first, but JQ knew that TZ were coming, a

196 IndianicWorld: Not a good start. With an ageing fleet that Scoot are inhering from SQ, it may well be a common theme over time. It may well finally overtake the QF
197 TruemanQLD: And so it begins... Hardly surprising, just a matter of whether px deal with it If not 100%, then they should be disappointed considering fares were
198 IndianicWorld: Excellent point. The real fun will be in coming months when they have to start charging higher fares.
199 qf002: Cheers. Just so long as 80A/K are still there!! TZ could have a dozen crashes a week and it would still attract fewer threads that QF making a stop f
200 jetfuel: 100% loads wont make a profits an the lowest fares. Word is they are having issues with forward bookings except for discounted fares.
201 IndianicWorld: ^^ Very true. Fully agree that yields are definitely more important. Very hard to tell but trying to take on D7 especially to OOL was a strange decisi
202 TruemanQLD: Never argued it did, was merely pointing out that the a/c will be full for a while. I think the whole model is flawed, but we need the tourists here
203 brad330: JQ are to comence direct CNS-SIN from by the years end. Along with MU to CAN things are looking up for CNS! What ac will JQ use? 320, 321 or even 332?
204 EK413: & how this was justified beats the hell outta me... An aircraft is out of service 8 weeks and only an extra 39 seats... Only way I see how it pay
205 Sydscott: I think you'll find that they will just de-couple the CNS-DRW-SIN service and make both a daily A320. There aren't any A332's spare for it at the mom
206 RyanairGuru: So that's 20 more than on my flight from BNE-HKG on CX then! Those figures are really good. I'm pretty certain that my flight wasn't particularly rep

209 jetfuel: no way and even CNS-SIN is going to be marginal
210 QF175: Australian Aviation Thread # 62 is now up and running!
211 6thfreedom: MU is shanghai, CZ is Guangzhou. 320s can't do China-Cairns. cathay's HKG-CNS sector 7hrs. Maybe 320neo in 2016? 320 can't make SIN. SIN-CNS is only
