Update On Fed Ex 727 Status?

The last time that I saw an update on this subject was over 18 months ago. How many are currently in service and are the plans still to withdraw 25 this year, 10 in 2013, 16 in 2014, 11 in 2015, and 6 in 2016?

After some additional research, I stand corrected (and most probably will be corrected by others again later to an even lower number), have found five additional ones that are confirmed as withdrawn from use. So down to 40 now.

Their are 43 currently in service with about 25 scheduled the rest sit as spares. 3 more will be retired in May after Mothers Day N262FE, N263FE & N264FE. 4 to be placed in storage by July, N479FE,N486FE,N487FE,N490FE. They recently said they would like to retire the fleet by the end of 2014.

BNA went back to the 757 in April.

That's the plan. I'm not sure if FX is getting enough 757s to cover the whole 727 fleet, but the capacity can be made up in other ways if not, such as a market going from 1x A310/1x 727 to 1x A300, or 2x MD10/727 to 1x MD10/1x MD11.

I noticed that there are only 2 of the re-engined birds left, one of them being N217FE. Are they going to keep it and possibly donate it to the Boeing museum since it is the last 727 built? if not, it should go to a museum somewhere as they are good about donating airplanes.

N207FE will be retired in September 2012 and N217FE will ride it out till the end, its Schedule to be retired in August 2015. They will start in the new fiscal year (JUNE) with new 727 for 757 replacement cities.

The schedule for retirement on the 727 at FX has been scaled back with the current economic conditions but they will eventually all be retired as the 757 increase on property.
