Why Are There A340-200s In Iberia's Schedule?

I was just looking at IB's schedule from the US to Spain this summer, and I saw that they have an A340-200 operating some BOS-MAD flights (for example on June 21 and June 22). As far as I know, IB has no plans to operate A340-200s, so is the equipment supposed to be A340-300 or A330-300? When are the first A330-300s arriving anyway?

IB doesn't actually have any A342s. It just so happens that IB uses the A342 aircraft type code on its timetables to denote flights which will be served by an A340-300 with less BusinessPlus seats (only 24, if i'm not mistaken).

For some reason it bothers me when airlines use aircraft codes for types they don't fly. AZ does it too. All of their 767-300 flights show up in the timetables as "764". Not the end of the world, just a pet peeve of mine.

flybe does - just do a dummy booking and a page or two in they state it.

For quite a while Pan Am timetables didn't identify which flights were operated by the 707 and which by the DC-8. They just showed "JET" as the equipment type.

They are called the "Caribbean" 343s since they were primarily thought for heavy touristic destinations (think HAV, SDQ etc.). I guess premium demand to BOS is not that high during the summer months.

If base ABC has 1 A319s and 1 A320, and have 2 6:00am departures, one to destination XXX and the other one to destination YYY, they must know which aircraft is operating what route before they decide to sell either 156 seats or 180 seats on each of them. They don't change the aircraft type based on demand as a last-minute source. Specially now that they are trialing the allocated seating.
