Afriqiyah Order 3 A330-300

In German we have a saying: "Mühsam ernährt sich das Eichhörnchen". Little by little, the bird builts his nest.

What is the main concern with Afriqiyah? Is it structural or just related to the political instability in Libya? Honest question.

why not A332? as it has the longer flying range which will come in handy...as it is there is not a single route that warrants an A333 being used that an A332 cannot adequately cater towards!

In the last couple of years, they have lost 1 A300, (burnt out) and 1A330, (crashed). They also have 2 A330 and 1 A340 parked.

Even if they can get the parked aircraft flying again, they could still do with a couple of planes to make up for losses.

The Colonel's 340 isn't going anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. Either it will be gutted out and turned into a pax transport or sent back to the Arabian peninsula, or scrapped on site.

It is probably too volatile for a resurgence just yet. Perhaps by the time this order is delivered (hopefully) the rebuilding of Libya will be well started

Agreed. The smaller capacity & longer range would serve their needs better

Given that the A340 is an A340-200, I doubt that it will fly passengers again.

This is based on the limitations of the type, it's age, (15 years) and that it is a singleton.

I suppose that it could be used as a VVIP jet. IMO, it is more likely to be parted out.

Nowadays the opposite is mostly true. Why fly an A332 when you can puit more seats in an A333?

I don't necessarily think more = better. Equipment should be chosen depending on the airline & route dynamics. Given the demand on any route being equal it may be advantageous to have lower capacity depending on competition. If we are talking about an established carrier on a highly competitive route, sure more capacity works. I think for Afriqiyah the A332 would serve their needs better as they unfortunately need to start again from square one after the revolution like the rest of Libya. As demand grows they can upguage.

I believe the 2 A332s were fairly recently ferried to Airbus in TLS for repairs of the damage they suffered during the hostilities.

Good to see things are improving for Afriqiyah. Not entirely sure if we will see these A333's fly for them because I was under the impression that the airline was in a right old state financially. I believe that the A332 would be much better suited to the airline as I don't think they'll have bigger enough loads to justify the extra seats, plus they'll miss some range but I can't wait to see the -300 in Afriqiyah colours.

If Afriqiyah has any future other than pure Libya OD, then it is the low price connection between Europe and the southern half of Africa. All this is within A333 range from Libya. Operation costs of A332 and A333 are practically the same, so having 40 more seats for free helps on the competitiveness.

I really hope Libya gets the peace it deserves after this terrible civil war - if it finds inner peace all the rest to florish is available.
