Note though that they actually had a $22m loss but the $70m they received from DL for the DCA/LGA slot swap agreement pushed them to a profit. So I wouldn't get overly excited about the profit, but considering last year they lost $110m excluding special items in the same period, they should be commended for the great year over year improvement even if they actually lost $22m in the real operation.

Quoting vlad1971 (Reply 1): Very Good !!! Glad US doing quite well lately .
Once upon a time, US was the Rodney Dangerfield of the airline industry, "they got no respect". Now "they are doing so well" that they've tried to buy a much larger rival in 3 separate occasions, (UA, DL and now AA), and lately they've been announcing profits, what is this world coming to

It IS a good performance in the traditionally weakest quarter of the year, but you do understand that it's only a profit due to a one time gain due to proceeds from the LGA swaps to DL, right? See Hatbutton's excellent post:

Not to rain on the parade, but pretty much anyone can "try" to buy anything. To date, they have not been successful in these efforts.
Add a fourth rival: US.
You cannot forget that Parker DID manage to merge with a larger rival.
