Former Wunala Dreaming Retired After 23 Years

Qantas has retired 1989-built 747-438 VH-OJB, which from 1994 - 2003 carried the famous Wunala Dreaming livery. Farewell to an fantastic aircraft I will never forget!

I was lucky to see and photograph Wunala Dreaming on the GE B747-400ER version only once, against a completely blue sky in the UK, very striking livery. The chances of having an elaborate livery such as this on an aircraft during these harsh economic times is virtually nil, so I will have to make do with the memory and photos.

VH-OJB came to FRA quite often, also in the days it carried the special livery. I remember back in 1996 it was parked in a remote spot at FRA where some construction was going on near one of the airport remote entrances. This site was not guarded and I entered it to take pictures from Wunala Dreaming in bright sunshine. Only after 20 minutes or so a patrol detected me and send me away. Terrorists could have blown up planes with ease back then with such loose security unthinkable today.

I flew VH-OJB from LAX to BNE in May 2009. Sad to see it go.

The reason New Mexico is so windy is because Texas sucks and Arizona blows.

I concur; in spite of this she has been the flagship of the QF fleet for the past 20+ years and now it’s time to pass the duties onto her predecessor the A380...
