Hi

I think it was operated by Brymon using a dash 8, but not 100% sure and I don't know where to.

Brymon captain Harry Gee landed the first aircraft on the quayside to prove the Dash 7's potential, I believe Bill Bryce and possibly Chris Amon too were on board.

Off the top of my head the first aircraft to land was from Plymouth, Brymon's base, again with Harry Gee piloting. I think the first flight out was to Paris, but I'm not completely sure. If you would like me to find out more details I know a number of the people involved in operating the very first flights and setting up the original operation at LCY. Incidentally the co-pilot on the first landing into LCY from PLH captained the very first Air Southwest flight from PLH to LCY some 20 years later.

Dash 7

The Dash 7 was the only aircraft type approved for operations at LCY when the airport opened on October 26, 1987.

This was a Brymon DHC-7 at Heron Quays on the Isle of Dogs, there is a plaque under the DLR platform commemorating this. The airport is 2-3 miles east on the old King George V dock.

Inital routes were CDG and BRU on Brymon and EuroCity Express, can't recall which flew which.

From the article: "the fares being charged.... are the same as business-class fares from other London airports to the same destinations....the one way fare to Paris is £100"

How things have changed huh? £200 return to Paris these days is definitely NOT C-class

But £100 one way in 1987 is equivalent to about £240 today with inflation, or £480 return.

I remember going there to see it as a kid when it first opened. I loved Brymon and London City Airways with its unique livery.
