Its been a good 24 hours since the news came out, but now multiple sources are reporting ALC is now a identified buyer for 60 737 MAX's in a announcement made yesterday, only other information he gave was the price is to be ~ $6 billion USD.

Quote:
The deal is expected to involve 60 of the fuel-efficient jets and is worth some $6 billion at list prices. It is already included in a Boeing list of commitments that still must be converted to firm orders, according to the two sources who asked not to be named because negotiations remain confidential. Udvar-Hazy said he saw most demand for aircraft at the higher end of the 100- to 200-seat category, corresponding to the 180-seat Airbus A321 and the Boeing 737 MAX 9

The announcement was only meant to be the announcing of ordering 8 more 787-9's for Vietnam Airlines at a list price of $1.8 billion USD. Reading further down, it seems he hints that he is most interested in the A321NEO and the 737 MAX9.

Industry experts believe Air Lease could announce the MAX order at the Farnborough Air Show in the UK in July. Air Lease also has a pending provisional order for 36 A320neo-family aircraft and plans to close an order for a further 16 in January 2013.

So VN have now doubled the size of their 787-9 fleet to 16 and have 10 A350-900s on order.

See this is where this article itched my head, "did VN double their 789 order?" Or was the order destined for a leasing company and they just finally announced which company will be leasing to VN.

ALC did order 4 787-9s in December 2011, but as this is for 8, I expect it is a new order as there are no 787 UFOs that match up.

After further research, VN did in fact, double their 787-9 order.

It is a new order, this now brings the total backlog for 2012 to +2 orders

So who is going to least the B-737MAXs and are they all B-737-9MAXs, or are there some B-737-7MAX and B-737-8MAX? If there are any B-737-7MAX, I believe this would be the launch order (once firmed up) for that model.

The MoU was meant to be announced at the Farnborough Air Show, but Udvar-Hazy has most interested in the 180-200 seat models. No identified 737-max7 buyers yet. Even WN ordered all 737-max8's.

The link doesn't work anymore, so i'll re post it,

So it appears that ALC's 8 frames were originally ordered as 787-8s by Vietnam Aircraft Leasing Company on 20 December 2007 for Vietnam Airlines. So these are not new orders.

VALC does show the 787 and 737NG on their website, but I don't see VALC as a Boeing customer. So either they never ordered the 737NG or those frames have been re-sold, as well.
